Sony is sending messages to PS4 owners encouraging them to buy a PS5 for GTA 6’s launch, as Rockstar’s sequel appears locked in for November.
Ever since Rockstar delayed GTA 6 to November 19 there’s been a hanging uncertainty over whether the sequel could be pushed back again, and into 2027.
Over recent weeks, however, there’s been evidence to suggest that’s not going to happen. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has said marketing for GTA 6 will ramp up in the summer, and he’s been doing a lot of interviews reiterating that date ahead of the company’s next financial call on May 21, with fans hoping for a new trailer around that time.
While there’s always a chance GTA 6 could be delayed again, Sony has given fans a reason to be hopeful; by pestering PlayStation 4 owners to upgrade to a PlayStation 5 in time for its launch.
As shared by X account GTA 6 Countdown, Sony has been pushing out emails and messages to PlayStation 4 owners who have either pre-ordered GTA 6 or relentlessly played GTA 5.
One message from PlayStation reads: ‘GTA 6 is on your wishlist. Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026.’

Of course, Sony wants anyone to buy a PlayStation 5 regardless, but it’s an encouraging sign that GTA 6 is still on track for November.
Additionally, these emails appear to have outed the game’s ESRB rating, although you hardly need much foresight to predict what it’ll be.
According to Sony, GTA 6 will be rated M for Mature 17+, due to the usual mix of blood and gore, intense violence, mature humour, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol.
Rockstar’s website still carries a ‘rating pending’ for GTA 6, but it would be more shocking if the sequel doesn’t have a 17+ rating – assuming you can still steal cars, shoot anyone you fancy, and take an afternoon stroll to the strip club.
As we approach Take-Two’s next financial call, the big question is how much GTA 6 will cost, with some analysts expecting it to be close to £100. However, recent comments from the company’s CEO suggests it could be more affordable than that, at least for the standard version.
At the moment, GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026 across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
