At age 52, Gwyneth Paltrow has been in the public eye for most of her life, for her relationships, her movie roles and her lifestyle brand GOOP.
Now a new book, “Gwyneth: The Biography” by Amy Odell, takes a deep dive into Gwyneth’s celebrity life that has taken her from Hollywood daughter to Oscar winner to lifestyle maven. And she did it all while navigating high profile romances in the public spotlight.
According to People, the book is based on more than 220 interviews which give insight into Paltrowâs early life, dramatic romances, and pivotal momentsâ especially her high-profile relationship with Brad Pitt.
While the book takes readers all the way back to Gwyneth’s childhood, starting when she was just 12 days old and visiting her mother, Blythe Danner, on a movie set, the biography spends a good amount of time walking readers through the actor’s romantic life.
And that includes some bombshell revelations about her tumultuous romance with fellow actor Brad Pitt.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Movie Choice Led to Epic Romance
The book takes readers through Gwyneth Paltrow’s romance with Brad Pitt from the very beginning, when a choice between two movie roles changed the course of her life.
Paltrow had been offered roles in both “Se7en” and “Feeling Minnesota.”
According to an excerpt of the book in People, “Unsure which one to take, she consulted with a friend, who said, ‘Well, who do you want to date, Brad Pitt or Keanu Reeves?’ Gwyneth chose ‘Se7en’ and Pitt, and Cameron Diaz took the ‘Feeling Minnesota’ part.”
Before long, Gwyneth and Brad were Hollywood’s golden couple.
After dating for two years, they got engaged. But cracks in the relationship were beginning to form, at least on Gwyneth’s end.
The nine-year age difference coupled with very different upbringings became too big of a gulf for Gwyneth, and she broke off the engagement after just six months.
She told Howard Stern in 2015. âI wasnât ready, and he was too good for me.â

Even though the breakup was Gwyneth Paltrow’s choice, it still wrecked her.
When she was a guest on the “Call Her Daddy” Podcast in 2023, Gwyneth told host Alex Cooper she was “totally heartbroken” after the breakup.
“It was the right thing at that time, but it was really hard,” Gwyneth revealed. “There were a number of things that had happened, he was nine years older than me â he knew what he wanted, he was ready to do it and I was kind of all over the place.”
“So it was really one of those difficult things, where I felt like, ‘Oh my God, not only am I not ready, I’m not living up to the standards again.’ It was a familiar refrain I felt about myself,” she confessed.
Gwyneth explained, âI had a lot of development to do, looking back in hindsight. In a lot of ways, I didnât really fully start to come into myself until I was 40 years old. And I had such a pleasing issue. I didnât really even understand how to listen to my instincts and act from that place for what was right for me. I was always trying to adjudicate what was right for everyone else.â
