HBO Renews Popular Series Following Its Blockbuster First Season

Task, HBO

HBO remains one of the most talked-about networks for prestige television. Of course, this is due to classics like “Game of Thrones” and “The Sopranos.” More recently, “Task,” starring Mark Ruffalo, premiered, and now it’s been renewed for a second season.

Deadline reported on November 20 that HBO had renewed “Task” for a second season, with Ruffalo set to return. This comes after season one of the series achieved high viewership and strong critical praise.

Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, released a statement on the show’s renewal. She said, “We knew well in advance of its launch that we had a powerful drama series on our hands, but it has been so rewarding to witness the audience’s fervor and embrace of this show as it grew week after week.”

She also spoke about the series’s creator, Brad Ingelsby. Orsi said, “Rarely does a writer balance humanistic storytelling with intricate, explosive plotting, but Brad Ingelsby is one of our industry’s greats and we have no doubt he will strike as profoundly and addictively once again in Season 2.”

In additon to Ruffalo, season one of “Task” starred Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton.

‘Task’ Quickly Became a Fan-Favorite HBO Series

“Task” premiered on HBO on September 7 as part of the network’s legendary Sunday night lineup. The show became an immediate hit, debuting with over 3.1 million viewers across three days, based on performance on HBO and HBO Max.
