Helena Bonham Carter Once Shared She Felt Like the Female Johnny Depp

But Bonham Carter felt they had more in common than just their matching filmographies. According to the <em>Harry Potter </em>star, they could come off almost as siblings.</p>

<p id=”par-2_101″>Bonham Carter is more than familiar with working alongside Depp. The two formed a similar working relationship comparable to their collaborations with filmmaker Tim Burton, who’s had a huge impact on their lives. Bonham Carter and Depp have done six films together, five of which being Burton films. After working with each other so frequently, Burton was able to point out certain similarities <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/helena-bonham-carter-joked-wouldve-divorced-tim-burton-didnt-cast-sweeney-todd.html/”>his ex-wife</a> had with the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/johnny-depp-iconicly-known-playing-edward-scissorhands-8-actors-part.html/”><em>Edward Scissorhands </em>star</a>. According to <a href=”https://www.femalefirst.co.uk/entertainment/Helena+Bonham+Carter-44876.html”>Female First</a>, Bonham Carter felt like Burton saw her as the female version of Depp. Which, she joked, was the reason why Burton was so attracted to her.</p>

<p id=”par-3_80″>“We have the same frown line and there’s certain similarities between the two of us, according to Tim – we always like to camouflage ourselves to the hilt when it comes to playing parts and we both loathe watching ourselves. And we’re both pale and tubercular and have big eyes. Tim’s always said we would be great in a silent movie. I think he definitely thinks I should’ve been in a silent movie because I talk too much,” she said.</p>

<p id=”par-4_32″>In an interview with <a href=”https://www.vulture.com/2010/11/helena_bonham_carter_interview.html”>Vulture</a>, she reflected on Burton’s deep bond with Depp a little further. In some aspects, the two were even closer than Bonham Carter and the <em>Batman </em>director were.</p>

<p id=”par-5_110″>“They definitely go back a long, long way. They have a lot to bond them apart from the fact that they’ve known each other so long and they’ve got an intuitive understanding of each other,” she said. “And they have all that cultural reference that I have no idea about; they were brought up on the same diet of television and just culturally American. So most of the time I have no idea what they’re having a laugh about. And also there’s a lot of things that I just don’t find funny — boys’ humor. So Johnny and I sort of have our friendship separate from Tim and his relationship.”</p>

<p id=”par-6_67″>There was only one feature that Bonham Carter and Depp starred in that Burton didn’t direct. Both were in the project <em>The Lone Ranger</em>, which Depp featured in <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/armie-hammer-said-intimidated-johnny-depp-the-longer-ranger.html/”>alongside Armie Hammer</a>. Instead, the movie was made by filmmaker Gore Verbinski, who Depp also had some familiarity with according to Bonham Carter. Although she admitted that being with Depp without Burton on set took some getting used to.</p>

<p id=”par-7_66″>“It was kind of funny at first working without Tim — it felt like we were missing something,” Bonham Carter once told <a href=”https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-lifestyle/exclusive-interview-the-lone-ranger-star-helena-bonham-carter”>Bring Me The News</a>. “But then it quickly fell into place. Gore obviously has a long friendship with Johnny, too — they have a jokey shorthand that is a totally different language — much in the same way Tim and Johnny have a shorthand.”</p>

<p id=”par-8_24″>There were also a few things that Verbinski had in common with Burton that perhaps made the experience a bit easier to adapt to.</p>

<p id=”par-9_63″>“There’s a lightness to Gore and Tim — they’re both very quick,” Bonham Carter said. “They know both know what they want. I’ve never worked with Gore before, but I found out he’s so prepared. I’ve never worked with somebody so prepared. He’s so immensely visual and dynamic. Tim and Gore are not totally dissimilar, but obviously, Gore doesn’t have curly black hair.”</p>
