âHouse of the Dragonâ is gearing up for its next chapter. HBO has released the first official trailer for season 3, giving a closer look at what happens after the season 2 finale. The new footage shows tensions rising across Westeros as the conflict intensifies.
The series is based on George R. R. Martinâs book âFire & Bloodâ and takes place about 200 years before âGame of Thrones.â It follows the Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons.
âHouse of the Dragonâ Season 3 Trailer Shows Fallout From Season 2 Finale
The trailer opens with the immediate aftermath of the season 2 finale, which aired in August 2024. Tensions are clearly rising across Westeros as different factions respond to the shifting balance of power.
âThere will be no doubt who the gods have chosen to rule,â Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma DâArcy) says cryptically in the trailer, as scenes unfold of dragons unleashing fire on their enemies and war spreading across Westeros.
Scenes throughout the trailer suggest the conflict is expanding beyond Kingâs Landing, drawing more of the Seven Kingdoms into the fight.
The trailer strongly hints at the Battle of the Gullet, a major naval conflict in the source material. In the trailer, ships clash at sea and dragons fly above the battlefield, signaling a larger scale of action.
Fan-favorite dragons Caraxes and Vhagar are also featured, with scenes of fire and destruction emphasizing their impact on the war.

The trailer introduces James Norton as Lord Ormund Hightower, adding a new figure to the expanding conflict. His role suggests that additional houses will become involved as the war grows.
