Hulk Hogan’s official cause of death has been revealed, after the wrestling star died aged 71.
The former world champion, real name Terry Bollea, was one of the biggest names in the sport, and most recently worked as a WWE brand ambassador.
Hogan’s family last week confirmed he had died, with the Clearwater Police Department operators stating the medical call they received was regarding a ‘cardiac arrest’.
Hogan’s cause of death has now been revealed as acute myocardial infarction, otherwise known as a heart attack, according to the New York Post.
Hogan also reportedly had a history of atrial fibrillation, which is a heart condition which results in an irregular and often rapid heart rate.
The record seen by the publication is also said to state that the former WWE star had a history of leukemia CLL, which is a type of cancer that affects white blood cells.
Major Nate Burnside of the Clearwater force said at the time of Hogan’s death that they had responded to a call just after 10am.
‘It was discovered at that time that Terry Bollea, also known as Hulk Hogan, was experiencing a serious medical related issue,’ he said.
‘Personnel provided medical treatment at that time and transported Mr Bollea to Morton Plant Hospital, where he died at 11.17am.’
The Clearwater Police Department went on to say they were conducting a standard medical investigation and said there were no signs of foul play on the scene.
Hogan’s death comes just a month after it was revealed that he underwent a major heart operation in June, and was recovering.
‘Hulk had pretty serious heart surgery a few weeks ago and was doing well afterward,’ an insider told US Weekly at the time.
Shortly after the news was confirmed, Hogan’s co-stars rushed to social media to share their tributes, as did the official WWE account.
The sport’s X tweeted: ‘WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away.
‘One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.
‘WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.’
