An eagerly-anticipated new movie starring two iconic 90s characters has received an impressive 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its release.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will see the beloved pair return to screen again in their sixth film together.

The second-featured length film in the franchise since The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005, it also serves as a full-length sequel to The Wrong Trousers, released in 1993.

It will air on the BBC on Christmas Day before it starts streaming on Netflix in the New Year.

The film’s synopsis has teased: ‘Gromit’s concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions proves justified when Wallace invents a “smart gnome” that seems to develop an evil mind of its own.

‘When it emerges that a vengeful figure from the past might be masterminding things, it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master… or Wallace may never be able to invent again.’

Since premiering last month, glowing critic reviews have seen the film achieve a perfect score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.

In its five-star review of the film, Metro said it was ‘wonderfully nostalgic’ and ‘truly worth the years of painstaking work stop-motion animation requires’.

‘Marrying the higher stakes and Feathers’ return with firmly sticking to the previous recipe for success makes it everything you hoped it would be,’ it added.

For the uninitiated, Feathers McGraw is one of the most infamous villain’s Wallace and Gromit face.

The evil penguin was last seen in The Wrong Trousers in 1993, when he was locked up thanks to the eccentric inventor and his highly intelligent pet beagle.

Ahead of the movie’s release fans haven’t been able to contain their excitement.

‘It’s great to see this classic duo return,’ Shonenboiss commented on YouTube.

‘A new Wallace and Gromit movie!! My dad and I loved W&G and watched our tapes of it all the time together when I was growing up. I’m so sad that he’s not around anymore to see this, especially since Feathers McGraw returns in this one (The Wrong Trousers was his favorite one) but I’ll definitely watch it in his memory,’ TheChaosDragoness shared.

‘I remember watching The Wrong Trousers countless times on VHS as a wee lad. As a guy in his 30’s now, I can’t wait to see this!’ Crichjo32 added.

It’s now been 35 years since Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park directed the first-ever Wallace and Gromit movie with A Grand Day Out.

Speaking about their return, he said it was like ‘meeting up with family friends’.

‘People respond to them because they feel so familiar. They’re like an old married couple in some ways, who know each other so well –– it’s a sort of love-hate relationship, but when the chips are down, they are always there for each other,’ he told Netflix’s Tudum.

‘Wallace pushes Gromit’s loyalty to the extreme, and Gromit always wants Wallace to change. It’s something everyone can relate to.’

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will be on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK this Christmas. It will stream on Netflix in the US and other countries from January 3, 2025.
