Hollywood continues to mourn the death of actor James Van Der Beek, who died on Feb. 11 at the age of 48 after a courageous battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer. During an episode of her “MesSy” podcast on March 3, actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler reflected on her “friend” whom she touchingly shared was “larger than life.”
Sigler also revealed that as she attended Van Der Beek’s memorial service at his family’s home, she experienced what felt like a heartfelt sign from him, a special reminder that the “Dawson’s Creek” actor will always be with her in some way.

GettyJamie-Lynn Sigler shared incredibly touching words about her “friend” James Van Der Beek, opening up about their deep bond and the special “sign” she saw from him after his passing in the latest episode of her “MesSy” podcast.
Sharing that she was “mourning along with the rest of the world,” Sigler said that she was moved by the outpouring of love following his death. “Jamesâ wisdom that he shared with us all the time, he so generously shared with the world. And as his friend, it makes me so happy to see the way heâs being celebrated and the way his gospel is sort of spreading like wildfire, the way it always should have. He was larger than life, and he still is.”
The actress shared that while attending his memorial service at his family’s home in Texas, she spotted a “giant J” in the clouds.
She continued to praise Van Der Beek, sharing, “The James that you hear being spoken about is the James he was 24-7. Iâve never seen a man so devoted to his family and his craft and his mission. He had dedication and conviction like no other. And he cared more, he made us all better people.â
Sigler, who continues to battle multiple sclerosis, noted that she and Van Der Beek bonded deeply over their health struggles and the pressures to keep going for the people around them.
“And even in his fight, he was always thinking of me and saying, Iâm trying this Jamie and I thought of you and maybe it could help you. And just the most loving, generous, wonderful, talented, magical, human. Rest in peace, James Van Der Beek. We will honor you always. And again, one of the greatest gifts of my life was being his friend,” she touchingly said.
Michelle Williams Says She’s ‘Constantly’ Thinking About Van Der Beek & His Family
GettyWhile attending The Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1, Michelle Williams, who starred alongside Van Der Beek on “Dawson’s Creek,” shared with Entertainment Tonight that she was “thinking about him and…his family constantly,” after winning the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series.
She continued, “I also just want to say itâs been such an amazing thing as James is a friend and a friend of the family to see the response in the wake of his passing. And I just really want to say thank you to each and every person who has contributed to sustaining their lives and their childrenâs lives. Itâs an incredibly meaningful thing to witness.”
Williams was addressing the Van Der Beek family’s GoFundMe fundraiser, which has since raised over $2 million to support the late actor’s wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children.
On Feb. 11, Kimberly shared a photo of her husband, announcing that he had “passed peacefully this morning.”
“He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend,” she wrote.
