Truly, his bathtub-slurping antics (among other things) gripped the nation over the festive period as they discovered the film’s delights and depravities as it started streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
However, the 31-year-old’s star has been firmly on the rise since he was Oscar-nominated for his turn in The Banshees of Inisherin opposite fellow Irish actor Colin Farrell in 2022.
Acting for over a decade, Barry’s first famous moment came back in 2013 on an Irish TV drama.
But the actor has grafted hard for the career he’s achieved so far, working with the likes of Christopher Nolan on movies and TV shows, and with plenty more to come.
Where is Barry Keoghan from?

Initially raised in the Summerhill area of Dublin, Barry was shunted around 13 foster homes as a child with his brother, as his mother battled drug addiction.
She died of a heroin overdose in her early thirties, when he was 12.
He dedicated his Bafta win for best supporting actor in 2023 for The Banshees of Inisherin to his late mum, as well as his son and ‘the kids that are dreaming to be something from the area that I came from’.
However, he has spoken positively about his experience in foster care and said he wanted to be a role model to his community.
‘Thirteen homes – if that was so paper, you’d kind of go, he’s destined to mess up,’ he said on The Late Late Show in 2018.
‘I hope I inspire younger ones to go – whatever you’re into, sports, whatever – just go and do something’ he added.
Before his mother’s death, he moved into his grandmother’s house, where he lived with his brother, cousin and aunt as a youngster.
In a recent interview with GQ, Barry shared that he often thinks of her when he’s struggling with feeling lonely.
‘Obviously, my mother. My mother, always. She’s many years passed now, but I always think about her anyway,’ he told the publication.
‘It’s always just in and around achievements that it’s really prominent – ’cause you’d like to celebrate that wit’ ’er, y’know?’
What was his breakthrough role?

Barry’s breakthrough role came 11 years ago, during the fourth season of Irish TV drama Love/Hate.
He was cast as infamous cat killer Wayne, a baby-faced teenage gangster in the gritty drama, which he filmed at the age of 20.
In one of the most controversial moments in the show’s history, Keoghan’s Wayne was seen brutally shooting a cat dead in cold blood while laughing about it afterwards.
The role has stuck with the star, who revealed he’d even been recognised in the MetLife stadium in New Jersey for it, back in 2016.

Since then, he’s appeared in 2016’s Trespass Against Us with Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson; as the violent Dymphna, a member of a criminal family, in Calm with Horses; and as terrifying Irish gangster Jonny in a surprise role in the final series of Top Boy last year.
Barry also claimed roles in Nolan’s Dunkirk, working with director Yorgos Lanthimos on The Killing of a Sacred Deer with Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, and in critically acclaimed mini-series Chernobyl.
He’s also a Marvel star thanks to Eternals, and made a cameo as the Joker at the end of 2022’s The Batman, opposite Robert Pattinson.

No, Barry is not married.
His last relationship was with long-term girlfriend Alyson Sandro.
The dental nurse accompanied him during awards season last year, after they started dating in early 2021.
The Green Knight actor moved to Dundee to live with her, but rumours suggest that the couple has now ended their relationship.

Neither has commented on it publicly, but an insider revealed to The Sun: ‘They’ve grown apart over recent months and things have finally come to a head.’
‘As far as she’s concerned, it’s over,’ they added.
More recently, Barry has been linked with US singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter, 24, after the pair were spotted on what appeared to be a date last month in Los Angeles.
They have since been spotted together again in January at Luna Luna, an interactive museum in Los Angeles.
Does he have any children?

Yes, Barry is a proud dad of one – to son Brando.
He welcomed the 17-month-old tot with Alyson back in August 2022.
The couple confirmed they were expecting their first child together in June, before welcoming Brando while Barry was in the middle of filming Saltburn.
‘They gave me a day off,’ he told GQ, laughing.
‘Good on them! Day off, and straight on to night shoots and night feedings – boom!’
What has he said about his ADHD diagnosis?
Among other health issues, Barry has recently revealed he went years without knowing he had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
During his tough childhood, he admitted he ended up messing around at school like a ‘little brat’ as a result, but never realised he was suffering from ADHD.
In the past few years, he’s started taking medication for the condition.
‘Everyone knew it, but I didn’t know it,’ he said of his ADHD when an interviewer suggested he’d likely had it as a youngster.
Masters of the Air is streaming on Apple TV Plus now.
