Sara Cox has officially taken over BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show after predecessor Scott Mills was sacked by the broadcaster back in March.
The 53-year-old was dismissed following allegations over his ‘personal conduct’.
Following his exit, Sara was announced as the replacement, moving from her teatime slot (4pm-7pm) to the morning gig.
But what do we know about the 51-year-old from Bolton, Greater Manchester?
She joined Radio 1 in 1999 and has hosted a range of shows across the corperation’s channels, while also completing mammoth charity challenges, and covering global events.
On top of being a national broadcasting treasure, Sara is a mum and wife – as she proudly writes in her Instagram bio.
Is Sara Cox married?
Sara is married to a man she lovingly refers to as ‘husBen’.
She met her spouse, Ben Cyzer, at Glastonbury Festival and the pair married in 2013.
Recently, on Vernon Kay’s Tracks of My Years, which he does during his Radio 2 mid-morning weekday slot, Sara got emotional about her husband.
After Vernon asked her why she picked the song, Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon, Sara replied: ‘Oh, don’t, Vernon. I just immediately cry because, I wasn’t looking, but somehow he found me, and that was Ben, my husband.’
She continued: ‘I just got given a second chance, and I just love him so much. We’re a great team.’
The radio DJ shares two children with Ben. Isaac is 18 and Renee is 16.
How many times has Sara Cox been married?
Sara Cox has been married twice – the first time was 2001, when she wed DJ and producer Jon Carter.
They tied the knot at a private ceremony in North London and welcomed their daughter, Lola Anne, three years later.
The year after Lola was born, the couple separated, having been married for four years.
Despite meeting her current husband Ben in 2006, Sara told The Mirror in 2007 that she was ‘never getting married’.
Six years later that changed, after she said ‘I do’ for the second time at The Langham hotel in London.
Speaking to The Times, Sara described having the ceremony and lunch at the posh five-star venue, before a ‘big rave-up a couple of days later’.
Where does Sara Cox live?
In November 2025, Sara told The Standard she lived in Tufnell Park, ‘on a gorgeous tree-lined road where kids still play on their bikes’.
She elaborated: ‘It’s close enough to dodgy areas for me to keep it ‘street’, though. I’ve lived there a little over two years.’
The BBC legend sometimes posts pictures and videos from her home and garden, giving followers a glimpse into her domestic setup.
As per a 2024 interview with House Beautiful, Sara lives there with her three children and husband.
They also have three dogs, two cats, two tortoises – and a horse who, thankfully, doesn’t live at the property.
A proud northerner, Sara grew up in the village of Little Lever, not far from Bolton.
Did Sara Cox have a modelling career?
At 19, after securing four A-levels, Sara began a modelling career which led her to catwalks in Milan, New York and South Korea.
In an interview with Good Housekeeping, the presenter talked about weighing just eight stone at one point during her time as a model. She credits this to an unhealthy lifestyle: ‘I had what would now be described as “disordered eating”.
‘But back then, in the early 90s, it was just seen as the norm. You smoked a lot of Marlboro Lights and survived on slimmer soups and coffee. It wasn’t remotely healthy!’
Sara was eventually sent home to Bolton for ‘bad behaviour’. She told The Guardian: ‘I’d put on weight as I was eating a lot of comfort food, mainly hard-boiled eggs. I also missed a shoot because I was so hungover.’
Upon her return, Sara’s modelling agency organised a casting call for Channel 4 series, The Girlie Show, in Manchester.
After a successful audition, Sara had landed her first presenting gig at age 21, and the rest is history!
What is Sara Cox’s net worth?
Sara has worked at the Beeb for nearly three decades. In 2023/2024, her yearly salary from the Radio 2 early evening show and ‘various other engagements across public service’ was between £310,000 – £314,999.
In November last year, The Sun estimated that Sara had a net worth of around £1million.
