“It Ends With Us” author Colleen Hoover‘s second book-turned-film, “Regretting You,” is set to hit theaters later this week. Unfortunately, Hoover will not be in attendance at any of the premieres or press events due to a medical issue.

Colleen Hoover Will Miss ‘Regretting You’ Press Tour

The author took to social media over the weekend to share the unfortunate news with her fans.

“I hate to have to announce this, but I will not be moderating the signing for [Lukas Gage] this month, nor will I be able to attend the premiere or any events for [‘Regretting You’],” she captioned a series of photos and videos shared via Instagram on October 17. “I’m super bummed, but am having an unavoidable surgery and can’t travel for a while.”

While the “It Starts With Us” author did not disclose what the surgery was for, she took the opportunity to encourage fans to “show up” for Lukas Gage’s event for his book, “I Wrote This for Attention,” as well as the feature film.

In place of Hoover, Anna Todd will take over moderating duties at Gage’s Los Angeles event.

“Please tag me in all your [‘Regretting You’] posts when it releases next week!” she continued in her post. “I’ll live vicariously through you guys. So sad to miss this movie release and premiere, but so grateful to all the actors and the team who put this together.”

Hoover’s famous friends were quick to send the author their well-wishes.

Author John Marrs commented, “Hope the surgery goes well. Cannot wait to read yours and [Freida McFadden’s] books. Readers of the world are in for a treat!”

“The Housemaid” author Freida McFadden also chimed in, writing, “So excited for the movie!!! And ‘Woman Down’ was incredible… your readers are in for a real treat!”

“Vanderpump Rules” star Stassi Schroeder wrote, “All the love to both of you guys,” while co-star Katie Maloney added four red heart emojis.

Lukas Gage and Olivia Ponton each sent their love.

‘Regretting You’ Hits Theaters Friday

“Regretting You” is the second of Hoover’s novels to be turned into a film, following 2024’s “It Ends With Us.”

The film stars Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco, Mason Thames, Willa Fitzgerald, Scott Eastwood, and Clancy Brown.

While Hoover is taking the necessary time to recover from her surgery, she will quickly be back in the promotional world as two of her other novels are being turned into movies in 2026: “Reminders of Him” in February, and “Verity” in October. She also has a new novel, “Woman Down,” due out in January.
