Jacob Elordi has been accused of ‘putting his career at risk’ after dropping out of Cannes due to an injury…before being spotted on holiday with Kendall Jenner.
Last month the Australian actor, 28, sparked rumours he was dating American model Kendall, 30, after they were seen at Coachella together.
A few months earlier they’d also been seen deep in conversation at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
A source told People in April: ‘They’ve been hanging out and getting to know each other the last couple months.’
Last week the pair were also snapped on holiday on the island of Kaua’i, Hawaii.
During their trip, they were seen staying at North Shore Preserve Resort and going for coffee and shopping at a wine shop.
Photographs also showed them sitting on a beach while she held what appeared to be a bottle of rosé.
However, some questioned the timing of the trip after Oscar-nominee Jacob pulled out of the Cannes Film Festival – which started last week and runs until May 23.
Earlier this month The Hollywood Reporter claimed Jacob had been set to serve on the Cannes competition jury.
The publication said he had been ‘confirmed for a spot on the jury under president Park Chan-wook’.
‘But the actor broke his foot, making the appointment nearly impossible due to the physical demands of hoofing it up and down the Palais steps and shuttling back and forth to screenings and jury commitments,’ it explained.
However, after he was seen walking around Hawaii with his rumoured girlfriend last week, many have questioned the timing.
‘Jacob Elordi declining a Cannes jury offer over a vacation with the Kardashian-Jenner clan tells me everything I need to know about him,’ user espressoriana posted on X.
‘The thing about Jacob Elordi dropping out of Cannes is it’s a lot of work, and if you don’t feel you’re equipped to take part and take the job seriously, you shouldn’t be there. That being said, there was no need to lie if he doesn’t have an actual foot injury,’ Rickyjay commented.
‘Jacob Elordi dropped out of being a juror at the Cannes Film Festival due to a “foot fracture”, but he showed up driving with Kendall Jenner, Kylie, and Timothée Chalamet. I hope these vacations don’t end up costing him his career… I thought he was smarter than that,’ Rochi added.
After the Hawaii photos were published, others showed him a few days later in Los Angeles sitting in the front seat of a car with Kendall, while her sister Kylie Jenner and boyfriend Timothée Chalamet were in the back seat.
‘How do you turn down the chance to be one of the youngest ever Cannes jury members, due to a foot injury, only to be seen being the DRIVER in a car with 3 other passengers, each who could have taken the wheel if your foot was really that badly injured?’ one person wrote on X, calling it a ‘fumble’.
Despite the backlash, many others defended Jacob.
‘God forbid a man wants to spend time with his girlfriend…..?????’ sylveesimstcg posted.
‘He was sleeping in his car because he was barely making Hollywood, he’s made it. So let him do it how it wants because he earned it,’ 0phi0c0rdyceps shared.
‘If a man chose to spend time with you over work you’d be telling all your friends about him lol,’ Lydia declared.
‘Genuinely confused on why this upsets y’all so much lol,’ price0fwoke added.
Others urged people to back off and ‘let him breathe’ and enjoy a ‘work life balance’ after a busy year starring in and promoting Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights and Euphoria.
If he’d accepted the Cannes offer, Jacob would have sat on a jury chaired by director Park and consisting of Skarsgard, Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao, Ruth Negga, Belgian director-screenwriter Laura Wandel, Chilean filmmaker Diego Céspedes, Ivorian American actor Isaach De Bankolé and Scottish screenwriter Paul Laverty.
It would have also made him one of the youngest jurors in Cannes history.
Neither Jacob nor Kendall has commented on rumours they are dating.
He has previously been linked to Kaia Gerber, Zendaya, Joey King, and dated Olivia Jade on and off beginning from December 2021. They were last spotted together in January 2026.
Meanwhile Kendall was most recently linked to Bad Bunny. They split in December 2023 but reconciled multiple times after their breakup.
The model and reality TV star previously dated Devin Booker for two years, and was also linked to Ben Simmons, Blake Griffin, A$AP Rocky and Harry Styles.
She previously told Vogue Australia in 2019 how her friendships and relationships are ‘very special and very sacred’ to her. ‘I personally think that bringing things into the public makes everything so much messier,’ she shared.
