He described their relationship during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. Cameron said, “It’s us walking around the house in socks, being voracious readers, building fires, and hanging out — after 30 years, there’s never a moment we don’t have something to talk about.”

During the interview, Amis also discussed Cameron going to the bottom of the Mariana Trench using a submersible in 2012. The former actress said she was “beyond nervous I would never see him again.” Still, she recalled his excitement because he was “just so excited; like a little kid. He’d been working on it for years, and you can’t hold that back from somebody.”

Notably, Cameron used the craft’s radio to say “I love you, baby. I love you, wife… all the way from the heart of the ocean.”

James Cameron Recently Revealed His Wife’s Reaction to ‘Avatar’

Cameron’s first “Avatar” movie was released in 2009 to critical acclaim and strong box-office figures. Now, 16 years later, the third film has been released in theaters, and he hopes to make two more.

Cameron spoke to Empire in 2025 and revealed how his wife reacted to “Avatar: Fire and Ash” after watching it for the first time. He said, “My wife watched the whole thing from end to end. She had kept herself away from it, and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along. This was Dec. 22.

She bawled for four hours. She kept trying to get her shit back together so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she’d just tear up and start crying again. Finally, I’m like, ‘Honey, I’ve got to go to bed. Sorry, we’ll talk about it some other time.’”

The New Movie Is a Major Success

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” follows 2022’s “Way of Water.” Now, three years later, the public still has interest in the franchise as before. Currently, the new one has a “fresh” 66% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a healthy 91% rating from audiences.

According to IGN, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” debuted with an impressive $345 million at the global box office. While its opening gross is higher than the previous film’s, the latest installment in the franchise is expected to play in theaters for quite some time.

If Disney moves ahead with plans for the fourth and fifth movies in the franchise, they are expected in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
