James Haskell has teased what it was like in his household on Christmas Day, revealing his ‘fiery’ father-in-law Richard Madeley was barred from even entering the kitchen.
Many people can surely relate to how heated it can become when surrounded by family during the festive period.
On Wednesday’s This Morning, former rugby union player James opened up about what it’s like spending time with Good Morning Britain presenter Richard, explaining that his in-law isn’t one to cook in a stress-free environment.
The 37-year-old married Chloe Madeley, 35, in 2018 and the couple welcomed their daughter in August last year.
‘Christmas was good,’ James shared, before explaining why Richard, 66, wasn’t allowed in the kitchen area.
‘This year he wasn’t allowed to cook because he can get quite fiery in the kitchen,’ he said.

‘The first time I met him I got invited over on Boxing Day. I was told that he can be a little bit tricky in the kitchen, don’t go in there. Of course, that was a red flag to a bull.’
James recalled how he wanted to ‘make a good impression’ as a son-in-law, and so he went into the kitchen and ‘gave a bit of chat’ to Richard.

However, this prompted the broadcaster to swear at him, with Chloe assuring him that he speaks to everyone that way when he’s cooking, even celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.
‘This year, he was thrown out of the kitchen because we wanted it stress-free,’ James added.
‘Chloe’s brother Dan cooked an absolute storm, smashed it, very relaxing, looked after like royalty, and it was amazing.’

In February last year, Richard was delighted over the announcement on Good Morning Britain that James and Chloe were expecting their first child together.
‘Well Richard, Chloe and I are expecting our first child. We’re going to be having a little girl and you are going to be a grandfather once again,’ James said live on the programme.
‘Never had anything like it before. In fact, I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a new strain of Covid going around,’ he said.
‘I took a test every week, it was always negative, but I can’t help thinking that’s what I had.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
