James Ransone’s Wife Bravely Opens Up About Coping With His Passing While Raising Their Children

Jamie McPhee, the wife of actor James Ransone, is opening up about grief, parenting, and love after the actor’s death, sharing a deeply personal message about continuing life for the sake of their children.

In a vulnerable note posted to social media, McPhee reflected on navigating public life while privately grieving, describing how moments of normalcy coexist with profound loss as she raises their two young children.

A Moment of Normalcy Amid Deep Grief

In her message, McPhee described taking their children, Violet and Jack, to the Glendale Mall after a day at the park.

“Today I took our kids with my angel Kristen to the Glendale Mall. They wanted ice cream after the park. Violet picked out a pink backpack. Jack made me buy and then build things at the Lego store.”

She shared that she became aware that people recognized her but chose not to approach her.

“For the first time in my life, it was clear that people recognized me. I heard someone behind me in the food court say, ‘ask her’ But they didn’t. And thank you for not. I was with my kids.”

Later, a friend reflected on how appearances can be misleading.

“I told a friend later, and she said, ‘It makes you realize you never really know what people are going through.’ And that’s true. Because in many moments we looked… happy. Normal. Laughing. Smiling. How? Not because we aren’t grieving. We are. But because I have two beautiful, incredible children who force me daily to see all the love and all the light that still exists inside of this.”

Remembering Love, Connection, and Healing

McPhee said the response following Ransone’s death revealed the depth of his impact on others.

“PJ, the outpouring of love for you is truly beyond anything you could ever imagine. But more than that, this devastating loss has also given so many an unbelievable gift.”

She described hearing stories of reconnection, healing, and long-buried truths coming into the open.

“I have been told countless stories. And there are probably a hundred thousand more I still haven’t heard of people reconnecting. Of friendships healing after years of silence. Of truths finally being spoken. Of old pain being brought into the light and somehow… softening. Sometimes almost instantly. I know this is real because I’ve done it myself in these past few days.”

A Final Conversation That Still Echoes

McPhee also shared a moment from the weeks before Ransone’s death, recalling a deeply emotional exchange.

“In the weeks before you left us, after months of telling me nearly every regret you’d ever carried: every mistake, every f**k-up, every hurtful thing you thought you’d wrote or said, you burst into tears and said: ‘Babe, you know the most fucked-up thing of all?’ ‘I actually love everyone.’”

She closed that reflection with a powerful response.

“Well babe, it turns out that despite all of it, everyone actually loves you too.”

Tributes, Legacy, and Support for the Family

On Sunday, McPhee also paid tribute to her husband on Instagram, sharing a photo of the couple embracing, with Ransone resting a hand on her baby bump.

CBS reported that Ransone died on Friday at age 46, according to a case report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled his death a suicide by hanging.

“I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again,” she wrote. “You told me I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me and you were so right.”

She thanked Ransone for giving her “the greatest gifts,” naming him and their children, Jack, 6, and Violet, 4. “We are forever,” she concluded.

Friends and colleagues responded with messages of support.

Actress Natasha Lyonne wrote, “Love you with everything I got and holding our beloved brilliant peejo with grace gratitude and cosmic peace into this life and the next family forever beautiful jamie you are the best of us we love you.” Actress Julia Fox added, “Giving you the biggest virtual hug and I hope you are wrapped in warmth and love we got your back with whatever you need.”

McPhee has linked a GoFundMe page in her Instagram Stories and bio to support the family.

“This fund has been created to support Jamie and the children as they navigate life after an unimaginable loss,” the page states.

“Its purpose is simple: to give Jamie the space to focus fully on Jack and Violet, to care for them, protect their sense of security, and ensure they have a bright future even without James’s light present in their everyday lives.”

Ransone was known for his work on “The Wire” and films including “Sinister,” “The Black Phone” and “It Chapter Two.”
