It’s been 22 years since Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan did their best impressions of each other in the film “Freaky Friday.” As Tess and Anna, the two played a mother and daughter who switched bodies after reading their fortune cookies simultaneously. By the end of the film, they’ve discovered the selfless love for each other that was lacking in their relationship.
As the pair’s sequel, “Freakier Friday,” gets closer to its release date, Curtis and Lohan are reflecting on the beginning of their friendship and its continuation. Both have had difficult experiences in life, and they feel fortunate to have each other for support.
Lindsay Lohan Praises Curtis’s Support: ‘Really There For Me’
âJamie was with me at a time in my life when I was going through a lot publicly,â Lohan told People. “She was privately really there for me.”
The feeling is mutual for Curtis. “I know I can trust her,” the “Knives Out” star confirmed. “And I can’t say that about a lot of people.”
“If I tell her something, itâs gonna stay with her,” she continued. “Weâve both been through hard things, âcause weâre alive and life is hard. And weâre not dead yet. So the truth of our experience together, it belies all of the kind of showbizzy stuff.”
“We connected, and we really stayed connected,” Curtis added. “And that is special and rare for me.”
But, while Curtis describes feeling trust, Lohan has a different word: safe.
“I have to feel safe around people. And Jamie is one of those people for me,” Lohan told her “Freakier Friday” co-star. “Like, I feel very safe with you. I feel safe telling you things.”
Jamie Lee Curtis Made It Her Mission to Be a ‘Safe’ Space for Lohan
At the “Freakier Friday” premiere, Curtis told “The Hollywood Reporter” why it was vital for her to keep in touch with Lohan after they finished “Freaky Friday.”
“Show business is transactional, and I want young people to understand that people don’t want anything from them,” she explained. “And when you work with a young actor like Lindsay, who was 15, I said to her from day one, ‘I want nothing from you except your own peace and serenity.’”
‘”And I am safe. I am a homebase,” she continued. “I don’t want anything, I’m not going to ask you to come to anything.’”
She paused to admit that she does occasionally ask Lohan to sign things for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, but that’s the exception to the rule.
“I don’t want her to feel transactional with me,” she added. “I want her to feel loved.”
