Beloved actress Jamie Lee Curtis has been a Hollywood powerhouse for decades. However, the aspect of her work that has perhaps touched her the most is playing opposite young actors. “Watching young actors do an adultâs job⦠Itâs very challenging,” Curtis recalled in conversation with Entertainment Tonight. In the video, she reminisces about her work on 1991’s “My Girl,” in which she joined child stars Macaulay Culkin and Anna Chlumsky.
“This is emotional for me because they were so young,” Curtis shared as she watched throwback footage of herself describing her attempts to avoid swearing around the young actors. “I’ve played a lot of moms, I’ve worked with a lot of young actors,” the actress said. “And Macaulay and Anna were so great.” Curtis, who was then a young mother herself, shares a warm embrace with Culkin in the video.
The Actress Has Fond Memories of Working on the Film
With so many film credits to her name, Curtis is bound to have some favorite projects. It appears “My Girl” may be one of them. “I loved ‘My Girl,’” she told ET. “That was another beautiful, unexpected, beautiful little bit of work.”
Aside from her sweet memories of working on the film, Curtis has also shared some funny anecdotes. In a “The Graham Norton Show” appearance, she recalled breaking the set’s “no swearing” rule in a hilarious incident. When filming wrapped for Culkin and Chlumsky, Curtis presented them with the money from “swear jars” that had accumulated quite a bit of cash from the adults on set. ” I took the two cans, and I walked up to each of them — each of the cans had like 500 bucks in it,” Curtis said. She went on to say that she jokingly swore at both children as she handed them the money.
Over three decades later, it seems Curtis and Culkin still get along. In 2024, the actors posed together for an Instagram photo, sharing a friendly hug and smiling.
Curtis Still Has a Close Relationship With Another Former Child Star
Of course, Culkin and Chlumsky aren’t the only child stars Curtis has crossed paths with over the years. In 2003, she starred opposite sixteen-year-old Lindsay Lohan in “Freaky Friday.” Twenty years later, the actresses are still pals. “As she’s matured, we’ve stayed in contact our whole lives,” Curtis told People in 2025.
As she went on to explain, Curtis places a high value on forming genuine connections with her younger counterparts. “I think it’s important, particularly with someone who is young in the movie business, if you connect with them, you have to let them know it’s real. There’s R-E-E-L life, and then there’s R-E-A-L life,” she said. This philosophy has clearly worked for Curtis and Lohan’s friendship.
