“The Long Walk” is the latest Stephen King novel to be adapted into a film or TV series.

Janelle Monae has been a King fan for a while now. When she saw Lionsgate hold a private screening of “The Long Walk” (where viewers walked on a treadmill to mimic the experience of the film), she was convinced she needed to do the same.

According to IMDB, “The Long Walk” is a horror film where “A group of teenage boys compete in an annual contest known as ‘The Long Walk,’ where they must maintain a certain walking speed or else.”

After hearing about a “treadmill screening,” where movie-goers have to maintain a 3 MPH walking pace or be forced to leave the screening, Monae wanted to see the movie this way. According to an Instagram story she shared on September 11, she said, “Can we PLEASE find out when these are happening??”

“I must go,” she wrote on September 2, 2025. On Thursday, September 11, 2025, she made that dream a reality by attending her own treadmill screening.

The “Glass Onion” star spoke at the screening about the genesis of the idea to have her own treadmill screening.

“Nate Wonder, who is part of my writing team, creative team,” Monae said to her interviewer. “We were in the studio writing, and he was like, ‘Have y’all seen what Lionsgate is doing for the promo of Stephen King’s movie ‘The Long Walk’?’”

“We were like, ‘no’. And he sent us a screenshot.”

“When I saw this,” Monae continues. “I have to be a part of this. We’re all in. We love art stunts, mystery marketing, it’s right up our alley. I think the team did such a great job.”

“It got me out (of) the studio,” she laughed.

Monae knew she was committed to watching the film from the moment she saw the trailer. “I was hooked when I saw the trailer,” she said. “I was like ‘oh, I’m in.’”

Monae was able to host her own screening, joined by about 20 of her friends to take in the newest King novel adaptation. The screening was hosted at the Culver Theater in Culver City, California.

“I like to fully immerse myself. Honestly, this should be the standard for every movie.”

“The Long Walk” is officially in theaters as of September 12, 2025.
