Jason Clarke has sensationally revealed that he’d quit acting altogether if his wife, French actress and model Cécile Breccia, ever woke up one day and asked him to.
The Australian actor, 56, has been in a relationship with Breccia since 2010. The couple have two children together â sons born in 2014 and 2019, respectively â and announced that they had married back in 2018.
In an exclusive interview with People, Clarke â who’s currently starring as the eponymous convicted murderer, Alex Murdaugh, in Hulu’s true crime drama “Murdaugh: Death in the Family” â told the publication he would always put his wife and children above his career.
Jason Clarke Would Be ‘Happy’ to Quit Acting if His Wife Asked
Jason Clarke told People that he’d “be happy to do it” if his wife asked him to leave the world of acting.
Clarke elaborated, saying “I really would. I’ve got no complaints with what I’ve done. It’s important for my family to be happy. I love them a lot.”
In fact, these days, when Clarke takes on projects, he’s already at a point where he says it’s a “lot of figuring out the logistics” when it comes to Breccia and their two sons.
He added, “You can’t do it without a partner like I have. We live a good life. We enjoy our travel together. Who knows where we’re going to be at some point, really.”
Before he commits to a role, Clarke now asks himself, “Do I have the energy to do that now?”
Clarke described the dilemma he faces in answering that question with a laugh, saying, “The 25-year-old in me goes, ‘Man I want to go and do it.’ Then, I think, ‘I’ve got two kids in school.’ There’s all this give and take, and then, boom, you’re lucky enough to work with someone like Kathryn Bigelow in A House of Dynamite.”
He elaborated, saying, “Sometimes I get a little concerned [about] the boys. Then, someone will say, ‘Oh, the boys love to travel. Get out there. Take them with you.’ I want to be a great father, whatever that entails, and that is a lot of up and down. I can show them the way, I can teach them things and all that, but I want to make sure that they feel like their life is their own, like mine was for me. That’s what my parents gave me.”
Clarke’s Performance in “Murdaugh: Death in the Family” Is Critically Acclaimed
All eight episodes of “Murdaugh: Death in the Family” are currently available to watch on Hulu, having released between October 15 and November 19.
The show is based on the real-life case of Alex Murdaugh and the subsequent Murdaugh Murders Podcast by Mandy Matney. Matney investigated and blogged about the case as it unfolded, after Murdaugh was accused of killing his wife, Maggie, and their son, Paul, on June 7, 2021.
In addition to Clarke, the show’s stellar cast includes Patricia Arquette, Johnny Berchtold, Will Harrison, Gerald McRaney, Brittany Snow, and Noah Emmerich.
The show and Clarke received great reviews from critics, with Lorraine Ali of the Los Angeles Times saying, “Clarke and Arquette are a dynamic pair, portraying the dysfunction and denial that led to the tragic slayings.”
You can watch the brilliant “Murdaugh: Death in the Family” on Hulu now.
