TMZ reported on the afternoon of August 14, 2025, that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has lost his mother, Jacklyn Bezos. She was 78 years old.

The outlet says the exact cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, but it is known that the matriarch was previously diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia back in 2020.

The family’s foundation has released a statement which reads in part, “Born December 29, 1946, Jackie died peacefully in her Miami home on August 14th, at the age of 78. A quiet final chapter to a life that taught all of us, friends and family alike, the true meaning of grit and determination, kindness, and service to others. Jackie was born to Lawrence Preston Gise and Mattie Louise Strait Gise in Washington, D.C. While she was growing up, the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. During high school in Albuquerque, Jackie had her first child, Jeffrey.”

Jeff Bezos Remembers His Mother Jacklyn In Emotional Tribute

Jeff Bezos shared a lengthy and emotional tribute to his mother on Instagram.

“I love you mom,” Bezos said in his statement after announcing his mother died surrounded by kids, grandkids, his father, and “so many of us who loved her.”

He expressed confidence that the Saint Elizabeth University grad felt her family’s love in her final moments.

At a prior appearance, Bezos expressed his appreciation for both his mother and father. The businessman said, “You know, you get different gifts in life. And by the way, it was pretty tough for them.” He then told the audience his mom gave birth to him when she was only 17 years old.
