Jennifer Garner Posts Emotional Instagram Tribute to Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton/Jennifer Garner

The world was in shock when Diane Keaton passed away on October 11, 2025. The “Annie Hall” actress had always seemed larger than life, the most exuberant person in the room. With the announcement of her death, old friends like Al Pacino and Bette Midler spoke about their grief.

“I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me,” Bette wrote. “She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star.”

But others shared their sadness, people who had met her in passing, or were just huge fans. Jennifer Garner and Diane Keaton never acted in anything together. Nonetheless, the “Alias” star took to Instagram to share her own tribute to Diane.

Garner Calls Diane Keaton ‘Kind’ and ‘Beloved’ in Tribute

“Ms. Keaton was unfailingly kind to me — to everyone,” Garner wrote in her Instagram story. “Diane, beloved by your community. We miss you already.”

The two women had never acted in any films or TV shows together. Despite this, it’s clear from their social media that they knew each other. On April 24, Jennifer posted a video of a mouse ‘working out,’ with the caption, “Just a reminder: Hit it. Get it.”

Four days later, Diane reposted it, tagging Jennifer and writing, “Get it! I’m with you!!!”

On July 21, Jennifer posted a clip from Gene Kelly’s 1943 film “Dubarry Was A Lady.” “Imagine the first rehearsal of this…” she wrote.

On August 2, 2021, Diane tagged Jennifer and reposted it with the caption, “Happy Monday!!!”

Two months later, Jennifer posted a silly video featuring a hand dressed up like a person.

On October 29, Diane reposted Jennifer’s video once again.

Diane Keaton & Jennifer Garner Raised Funds for ‘Stand Up to Cancer’

Diane and Jennifer may not have been best friends, but they were acquainted for many years. In 2008, many celebrities participated in the “Stand Up to Cancer,” a live telethon event to raise money and awareness that aired on ABC, NBC, and CBS. Singers such as Mariah Carey and Beyoncé turned out, along with A-list celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, and Jennifer Garner.

Diane Keaton had been open about her own cancer struggles over the years. In 2015, she told the Los Angeles Times that she’d been diagnosed with skin cancer at age 21. Decades later, she had two surgeries to remove squamous cell cancer.
