Jeopardy’s Ken Jennings Apologizes After Backlash Over ‘A.I.’ Clue

jeopardy apology

Fans of “Jeopardy!” noticed a major error in one clue during a recent episode and voiced their concerns via social media, forcing host Ken Jennings to issue an apology.

The category was “Daddy, Is There Really A…”

The $800 answer: “No: A.I. generated the TikTok image of this pig/human eventually killed by Tim Cheese.”

None of the three contestants even attempted to buzz in with an answer.

“I didn’t understand any of that,” Jennings joked. “Who is John Pork?” he revealed as the question.

Fans Flooded Social Media With Criticism

“John Pork predates AI this is wrong,” one follower of the show’s TikTok page responded to a clip of the episode, which was shared on October 24.

“John pork is a photoshopped being how dare you call him AI,” another wrote.

“Please have some respect. Many of us are still grieving John,” a third chimed in.

“John pork first posted on insta in 2018, not AI generated,” a fourth person wrote. “I didn’t get this question because its answer is wrong,” another wrote. “John Pork isn’t AI his official Instagram account has existed since like 2017.”

Other out-of-the-loop followers were shocked to learn of John Pork’s death via Jeopardy.

“Tim Cheese did WHAT,” another page responded.

“This is how I find out he was killed?!” one follower wrote in shock, to which “Jeopardy!” responded, “What is ‘Oops?’”

Ken Jennings Issues Apology

Jennings, 51, issued a video-recorded explanation via TikTok on October 31.

“When we played a clue recently on ‘Jeopardy!’ about John Pork, I remarked that I didn’t understand a word of it,” Jennings began. “Well, I’ve had the chance to learn quite a bit since that clue aired about the late Mr. Pork. Including the fact that some viewers took exception with our description of him as A.I.-generated. Now, even though A.I. is used heavily in many of his TikTok’s, it’s possible that wasn’t the best wording to refer to his originally appearances.”

“John, I hope you’ll forgive me and all of us at ‘Jeopardy!’ for any insult we may have committed against you or your memory,” he continued.

The former “Jeopardy!” champ’s apology seemed to quell critics’ anger as comments ranging from “This is journalistic integrity” to “Love to see that there is still integrity and respect in entertainment” began pouring in.

Others joked about the formality of the apology, with one follower writing, “Hearing John Pork referred to as ‘Mr. Pork’ is possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever heard.”
