Jeremy Vine Show guest commentator Femi Oluwole has claimed he was fired from the show but never told why by the programme.
The 35-year-old political activist took to his TikTok to address why viewers haven’t seen him on the Channel 5 show lately.
His last appearance was in 2023 and he explained in a candid video to his 200,000 followers why, after he had been asked about the alleged firing.
In the caption, he wrote: ‘They never told me why they fired me.’
Speaking to the camera in the short clip, against a picture of Vine in the background, he said: ‘Yeah they fired me, which is to say they stopped booking me a few years ago.
‘It was a big deal for me because it was my main media gig. I was on there twice a month and, because I happened to be living in the spare room of my best mate’s house – mates rates – that show covered rent for me.
‘So losing that was a big deal.’
Oluwole went on to say that he didn’t think he was incapable of having made a mistake, so did question, ‘did I do something wrong?’.
He said he considered whether his push to debate higher profile right-wing figures – such as presenters Carole Malone and Bev Turner – was behind it, explaining: ‘I thought I’d make more of a difference if I could take down some real heavy-hitters… Maybe it wasn’t my place to say that.’
The political commentator went on to say: ‘I have no issues, no sense of guilt, I don’t feel I did anything truly wrong that I deserved to be essentially kicked off the show.’
He then criticised the channel for keeping journalist Malone on the programme, saying: ‘They’ve chosen to keep her and axe me, so a decision was made if this is the sort of person they want to keep on their show.’
Oluwole described her as ‘shouty, rude and offensive’, saying: ‘That’s the quality of debate that they think should be a mainstay of the show… I’m feeling I’m not the problem.’
Metro contacted Channel 5 for comment and Oluwole for additional comment.
The Jeremy Vine Show airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 9.15am.
