Jess Glynne reveals ‘life-altering’ reason for missing Alex Scott’s I’m A Celebrity exit

Jess Glynne has revealed the reason she wasn’t waiting at the iconic I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! bridge when partner Alex Scott was eliminated last night.

Sports presenter and professional footballer Alex, 41, was up for elimination after fumbling Friday night’s stomach-churning live Bushtucker trial, along with Jack Osbourne, Aitch, Angry Ginge, Kelly Brook, Martin Kemp and Ruby Wax.

As the votes came in, Alex and Kelly found themselves in the bottom two – and it was the former Lioness who was eliminated.

In leaving, Alex crossed the bridge to meet her freedom… although partner Jess, 36, wasn’t there waiting for her.

Viewers were dismayed to see that Jess wasn’t there for the pair’s reunion, with some branding Alex’s exit scenes a ‘let down’ amid hopes that a proposal might be on the cards.

However, musician and Hold My Hand hitmaker Jess has now weighed in, revealing that she hadn’t been able to attend due to her mother suffering a ‘major’ stroke.

Posting to her Instagram stories after Alex’s elimination, Jess started: ‘My woman might be out far earlier than she ever deserved but I’m so unbelievably proud of her.

‘She didn’t get the airtime to show how incredible she really is and trust me, this is only the beginning.’

She then went on to explain why she hadn’t been there for Alex’s exit, revealing details of her mother’s stroke and subsequent surgery.

‘Over the last few weeks my mum suffered a major stroke and needed urgent brain surgery,’ Jess wrote.

‘It’s been a really serious, life-altering time for my family, and I’ve had to stay close to home.

‘Alex would always want me to be where I’m needed most.’

Signing off with a red heart emoji, she added: ‘I can’t wait to have her back by my side.’

Prior to Jess’s post, some viewers had expressed their confusion at her absence, with IrishLaurinah writing on X: ‘What a let down it’s not Jess at the end of the tunnel.’

‘Wait Jess glynne isn’t at the end of the bridge with a ring,’ commented eds_afterglow.

Echoed louisa95: ‘Wait Jess isn’t at the end of the bridge with the ring ready to propose??’

This comes after Alex revealed last week that she was ‘just waiting’ for Jess to propose.

When asked by Ruby Wax whether they’d get married, Alex replied: ‘I will get married to her, just waiting for her to ask, Rubes!’

As the exchange aired, Jess took to her Instagram stories, where she wrote: ‘I better go get a ring.’

She later appeared on This Morning, where host Alison Hammond asked: ‘She’s been talking about getting married have you got the ring yet babe?’

‘Yeah!’ replied Jess, before adding: ‘No! The pressure! Why do I have to ask her? It’s a weird one, innit, I mean, you never know who will ask who but…’

‘Yes, can’t wait, watch this space!’ laughed Alison.

Jess and Alex went public with their relationship in October 2023, with a source telling The Sun at the time: ‘Alex and Jess have been a slow burn and they didn’t want to rush things or go public too soon.

‘But they’re officially an item now and seem really happy. They are both strong, independent women with a shared passion and respect of their respective careers, supporting one another from the sidelines.’

After the news broke, the pair then appeared to soft-launch their relationship on social media, as Alex wished Jess a happy birthday with a kissing emoji.

After departing the jungle, Alex opened up to hosts Ant and Dec about her time in the jungle… copping to having smuggled salt into the camp inside her socks.

‘Maybe I got too confident. The first couple of days, because it was just Jack cooking, I put it on a spoon and kept feeding it to Jack, and he’d just then sprinkle it,’ she revealed.

‘My campmates were in on it. Now every day, they’re like, “Where’s the salt? We need some seasoning.’

She then went on to share who she’d want to see take this year’s jungle crown, singling out former EastEnders star Shona McGarty.

‘I think Shona being named Queen of the Jungle would just change her and give her the confidence to take on life.’
