Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen have reunited for the first time in 25 years since they starred alongside each other in How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
Both attended the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on November 8 to welcome Seattle grunge rockers Soundgarden into the 2025 cohort.
While the Ace Ventura star, 63, inducted Soundgarden with a hilarious opening speech and The Pretty Reckless frontwoman, 32, performed alongside the band, the pair had a chance to catch up before the proceedings, marking their first opportunity to do so since 2000.
Speaking on the red carpet to reporters while posing together, Jim said, ‘We haven’t seen each other since The Grinch,’ to which Taylor responded: ’25 years!’
Jim famously donned a green prosthetic-heavy skin for his role as the titular anti-Christmas grump, while a young Taylor played Cindy Lou Who from the Dr. Seuss storybook.
On the red carpet, former actress Taylor told People of her favourite memories of working with Jim.
‘I just love that he was very protective of me. He was always very kind. And just the entire experience of filming Grinch and getting to know him so well, even in all the makeup, was just wonderful,’ she said.
‘As a young person watching an artist at work and taking their craft so seriously, that left a really powerful, lasting impact on me as an adult now,’ Taylor added. ‘And I’m excited to be able to tell him that as a grownup.’
Gossip Girl star Taylor previously told Alex Cooper on a November 5 episode of Call Her Daddy that Jim, who recently came out of retirement because he ‘needs the money’, always wore his green makeup on set while filming The Grinch, so she never actually knew what he looked like at the time.
‘To me, he was always Jim and he was always in makeup. He was very protective of me, very kind, super funny, super animated, absolutely awesome,’ Taylor remembered.
She added: ‘But the funny thing is I never knew what Jim Carrey looked like because I never saw him because he was there way early doing the prosthetics.
‘I didn’t know who Jim was until the premiere and someone had to point him out to me and go, “That’s Jim,”‘ she added. ‘And I went, “Oh, Jim.”‘
Elsewhere in the evening Jim, who once hosted a 1996 episode of Saturday Night Live for which he insisted Soundgarden was the musical guest, talked highly of the band in his speech honouring them.
‘When the Seattle music scene exploded, it resurrected rock and roll for me,’ he began.
‘When I heard Soundgarden for the first time, I wanted to put a flannel shirt on and run into the streets screaming, “My mother smoked during pregnancy!”’
Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell, Brandi Carlile and Taylor along with Pretty Reckless, who supported Soundgarden’s tour prior to lead singer Chris Cornell’s 2017 death, joined the band onstage to perform Rusty Cage and Black Hole Sun at the ceremony.
Other inductees included US rap duo Outkast, English rockers Bad Company, Salt-N-Pepa, The White Stripes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Warren Zevon, and Cyndi Lauper, who was inducted by Chappell Roan.
