John revealed the reason why he has embraced his new look in an interview with People on May 22. “Once Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar voted me the best dressed at Cannes, I went, ‘Okay, we’ve arrived,’” he said. He added that the look “was really just an homage to being a director. I wanted to differentiate all these years of watching me in photos. I can’t tell the difference with, what year was that? What movie was that? What press conference was that? And I thought, ‘I’m gonna tag it now.’ I’m gonna give it an identity to the time and the place and the form and event.”

“Propeller One-Way Night Coach” is an incredibly meaningful film for John, and he has been enjoying the experience immensely. “Iâm on cloud nine, literally,” he said of his 2026 Cannes Film Festival experience, Fox 5 reports. The prestigious event was where they premiered the film. He also received an Honorary Palme dâOr. “I knew it would be wonderful to premiere the movie here, but this Palme dâOr, which is, in my opinion, the highest award you can get in the movie industry, I donât even know how to think with it. Because it was such a surprise! I did not know this was happening.”
Ella also shared her thoughts on the film and how it left a lasting impact on her. In an interview with People, she referred to it as “one of the best experiences ever just for the fact that I got to do it with most of my family and with my dad directing.” She continued, âMy dad let me be a part of a lot of the creative aspects of the film, which was so nice, and we would kind of lean on each other with advice and run everything by each other. So it was just magnificent.”
