While it’s been nearly a decade since Johnny Depp portrayed the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, during the Los Angeles premiere of his new film, “Modi: Three Days On The Wing Of Madness” on Tuesday, November 4, he revealed that he’s not entirely ruling out a sixth “Pirates” film.

Johnny Depp Addresses Possible ‘Pirates’ Return

“That’d be fun,” Depp, 62, told Entertainment Tonight when asked about a potential return to the Disney franchise.

Depp did not expand on his reaction, but the “Edward Scissorhands” star is one of only three characters who appeared in all five of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. (Geoffrey Rush played Captain Hector Barbossa and Kevin McNally played Joshamee Gibbs throughout the franchise).

‘Pirates’ Producer Talks Johnny Depp Return

Jerry Bruckheimer — the producer of the iconic franchise — previously revealed his thoughts on bringing Depp back for a sixth film.

“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly in August. “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know… We are still working on a screenplay. We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close.”

Depp was the lead in all five of the “Pirates” films, beginning with 2003’s “The Curse of the Black Pearl.”

Depp’s last Hollywood studio movie was 2018’s “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.”

Johnny Depp’s Career Is Booming

He’s currently resurrecting his career, starting with the film “Modi: Three Days On The Wing Of Madness, which he directed.

“It was something that Al [Pacino] was going to do a long, long time ago. He was going to make this film,” Depp told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday. “And then time passes. So he called me, and he said, ‘John, I think you should direct this film.’”

After some hesitation, he agreed to give it a try, joking that he was happy not to have to deal with himself as a cast member.

His next career move will be starring as Ebenezer Scrooge in the upcoming movie “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol,” a darker take on the classic holiday tale.

Depp called the 1951 film by Alastair Sim “perfection,” adding, “It’s one of my favorite films of all time.”

“A lot of people have gone into that world of Dickens, but I’m really, sort of, interested in finding a different angle on Scrooge,” he said of his portrayal.
