Jonah Hill is opening up about a major life shiftâone thatâs centered entirely around family.
During a live taping of the âSmartLessâ podcast on April 25, the âOutcomeâ star revealed why he and his wife, Olivia Millar, made the decision to leave Los Angeles behind and settle into a quieter life, according to People.
Hill Talks Leaving L.A.
âSo real quick, before we go any further, my wife is here. My best friend. Shout-out to my beautiful wife, Liv. Where is she? Oh, whatâs up, baby?â Hill shared from the stage at Avalon Hollywood, where he appeared alongside hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.
The 42-year-old actor explained that the move happened three years ago, shortly after the couple welcomed their first child.
âSo I live in a very small town in San Diego, and itâs amazing, and my neighbors are incredible people,â he said. âAnd when we had our first kid, we moved out there three years ago.â
For Hill, the decision was intentional. âI wanted to leave L.A. and raise a family outside of Los Angeles,â he continued per the outlet, noting that he still travels back for work when needed.
What stands out most about his new environment, he shared, is the sense of normalcy. âThey never treat me weird or ask me about my job or anything,â Hill said of his neighbors.
He even highlighted one close friendship: âAnd my neighbor is one of my great friends, Dr. Sean⦠he never bothered me or was like, âOh, whatâs this person like?ââ
Hill Grew Up in Los Angeles
While Hill has stepped away from the constant spotlight, his appreciation for his upbringing in Los Angeles hasnât faded.
Reflecting on his childhood, he said, âL.A. was such a cool place to grow up in the â90s because you could go skateboard downtown or you could sneak into a movie premiere or you could go sneak into a comedy club and see Chris Rock or something.â
He added that the era offered a unique mix of influences. âYou had access to show business stuff, but you had access to punk and skating and graffiti and all the naughty stuff. And there was no internet. It was just so awesome.â
Now, his focus has clearly shifted. Hill recently confirmed that he and Millar are married and have welcomed their second child, expanding their growing family.
Despite his ongoing careerâincluding writing, directing and starring in âOutcomeââhe made it clear that family comes first.
Hill Recently Confirmed He Was a Dad of Two
âAnd I have two kids now. The only thing that could separate me from my family is the editing room,â Hill told Interview Magazine earlier in April. âI love the writing, I love the shooting, but editing⦠itâs like dessert every day. Even the problems are dessert.â
The comment underscores how selective he has become with his work, prioritizing projects that allow him to stay close to home.
By trading Hollywoodâs fast-paced lifestyle for a quieter community, Hill seems to have found a balance that works.
Hill is notoriously private and the move to San Diego shows he has no intention of changing that anytime soon.
