Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been credited with dropping ‘the craziest hard launch ever’ after officially confirming he’s dating Katy Perry.
Earlier this year it was revealed that the pop star, 40, had split from long-time partner Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares daughter Daisy Dove, five.
A month later – in July – she was then spotted on what appeared to be a romantic dinner date with Justin, 53, in Montreal.
Since then, the pair have been spotted in a passionate embrace aboard a luxury yacht in California, and most recently, snapped holding hands during a romantic trip to Paris.
Although the pair had yet to comment publicly on their romance, in the past few days both have now hard launched on social media.
Justin and Katy have recently been in Japan together – with the former politician sharing a photo with the former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko on X this week.
Posting a photo of the foursome posing by a Christmas tree, Kishida referred to Katy as the ‘partner’ of Justin.
‘Former Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch,’ he wrote his caption in Japanese.
‘During his time as prime minister, we met multiple times as fellow leaders, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the Japan-Canada Action Plan, sweating it out side by side. I am delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way.’
Resharing the post and responding, Justin shared: ‘Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone.’
His post was met with a frenzy from fans, who were taken aback by how the relationship was officially announced.
‘This might be the craziest hard launch in the history of the free world,’ user Jeff posted on X.
‘The concept of hard launching your new gf by meeting the former pm of Japan,’ Tanner commented.
‘Hard launch through diplomatic relations is a new one,’ Arielle added.
‘Ok now this might just be the peak of my two worlds colliding,’ Sammy declared.
Meanwhile Fisch wrote: ‘Never in my wildest imagination could I have imagined Katy Perry doing diplomatic work for Canada. Wildest timeline.’
After Justin confirmed he was in a relationship with Katy, she has now shared a selfie of them together on Instagram.
On Saturday afternoon, Katy posted a series of snaps of her recent trip to Japan, including one in an embrace with Justin, eating in a restaurant together and visiting a museum.
‘Tokyo times on tour and more ( ◠‿◠ ) 🎄🍣🐡🥞💐☃️♥️,’ she captioned the post.
Just a few days after Katy and Justin were first spotted at a dinner together, he then attended one of her concerts in Canada with his teenage daughter.
Speaking about their romance, an insider previously told Metro that the pair were ‘having a lot of fun together.’
‘He absolutely loves her sense of humour and thinks she’s incredibly talented,’ they shared.
‘They come from very different backgrounds, but Katy is quite in tune with current affairs and politics. She finds Justin incredibly charming and intelligent.’
‘After splitting from Orlando, she’s not in a rush to jump into a new relationship, but they’re really enjoying the time they’re spending together. Even when she was on tour, they were in contact the whole time.’
Katy and Orlando had first started dating in 2016. Meanwhile Justin was previously married to TV presenter Sophie Grégoire from 2003 until 2023.
They share three children together: Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien. At the time of their separation, the couple released a joint statement saying they had reached the decision ‘after many meaningful and difficult conversations.’
