Kanye “Ye” West seems to delve into his mental health in his upcoming documentary, In Whose Name? The rapper has since spoken out about his bipolar disorder diagnosis, claiming that he no longer identifies as bipolar. And he notes in the trailer for the documentary that he stopped taking his prescribed medications.

In 2023, a <a href=”https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/16y0a4h/kim_telling_kanye_he_needs_to_go_back_on_his_meds/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Reddit user posted a leaked clip of West speaking to then-wife Kim Kardashian over the phone. West tells Kardashian that he wants her to “pump” him “up” more so he can feel good about himself. Kardashian agrees that she could do a better job at being his hype woman. He then starts to talk about another topic.

“I didn’t mean to be rude to that guy,” West says. “I was just being funny to myself. It was funny to me.”

“I know,” Kardashian notes. “But I think it could be helpful — like, that other medication. … I know you’re never gonna be on it, but I’m just saying, what if? … You know what I mean? It’s just good to have information.”

West agrees that “information is good,” and he seemed open to learning more.

Fans noted that the interaction seemed “exhausting” for Kardashian.

“This is sad,” a fan commented. “This is mental illness and a spouse trying to cope, and a marriage crumbling. I’m no Kim fan, but I can’t fault her for wanting to get Kanye help.”

Kanye ‘Ye’ West’s Comments About Still Loving Kim Kardashian Look Different After Documentary Trailer

The trailer for In Whose Name? delivers a strikingly intimate and unsettling glimpse into Kanye “Ye” West’s life. It opens with West quietly stating, “I’m off my meds for five months now,” a sobering confession that sets the tone for the rest of the clip. Immediately, a tearful Kim Kardashian interrupts, lamenting, “Your personality was not like this a few years ago,” capturing a moment of raw familial strain. We’re then taken on a compressed journey through West’s recent life — his Sunday Service, presidential run, explosive public controversies, and a volatile interior world where he declares, “I would rather be dead than be on medication.”

West has been open about living with bipolar disorder, a diagnosis he first publicly confirmed in 2018. He called it his “superpower” even as he acknowledged its challenges. His experiences with the condition have often played out in the public eye through erratic social media posts, candid interviews, and moments of vulnerability in his music.

The rapper previously said that Bianca Censori knew he didn’t have bipolar disorder

Kanye “Ye” West addresses his bipolar disorder in his upcoming documentary. However, in the recent past, he noted that he’s not so sure about this diagnosis. While speaking to <a href=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szqm7V1Muwc” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Justin Laboy, West noted that his wife, Bianca Censori, suggested he might have autism.

“I went to this doctor, one that worked with Justin Bieber. … I’m not even gonna name the names,” West said. “My wife took me, because she said, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar. I’ve seen bipolar before.’ … And come to find out, it’s really a case of autism that I have.”

“I haven’t taken the medication since I found out that it wasn’t bipolar,” West continued. “… It’s finding stuff that doesn’t block the creativity, obviously. That’s what I bring to the world.”
