Kate Beckinsale Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Her Late Mother

Kate Beckinsale Honors Late Mother Judy Loe

When you lose your mother, you lose a part of the world that raised you. For Kate Beckinsale, that ache runs deep. Now, she is honoring her late mother with a tribute she’ll carry forever. On November 21, the actress revealed a new arm tattoo of her mom, Judy Loe, who died on July 15 at age 78 following a stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

A Tribute Fitting For Beckinsale’s Beloved Mom

The portrait, done by Los Angeles tattoo artist Dr. Woo, was based on a photo of Loe from her younger years.

Beckinsale shared the ink on Instagram with a dark, honest caption: “If everyone would stop dying, I wouldn’t have so many tattoos.”

She also included two other tattoos created by Endry Stymest. One is an illustration of Peepo, the fox she used to feed in her mother’s garden. The other reads “fatherless scum,” a piece she revealed in June ahead of Father’s Day.

The Actress Reflects on Her Mother’s Death and Their Bond

Beckinsale first spoke publicly about Loe’s passing on July 17. “I don’t want to post this. I am only posting this because I have had to register my mother‘s death certificate, and it will soon become public record,” she wrote.

“She died the night of July 15 in my arms after immeasurable suffering.”

She went on to share the depth of their relationship. “Jude was the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend,” she wrote. “The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly,” adding that losing her mother was “nearly impossible to bear.”

She also reflected on long-standing grief tied to her father, actor Richard Beckinsale. “This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five, and I am here. Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry.”

Beckinsale Honors Loe Through an Emotional ‘Rocky Horror Show’ Performance

Months after Loe’s death, Beckinsale paid tribute again in a completely different way. The actress stepped into the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in a special performance of “The Rocky Horror Show,” fulfilling a childhood dream. She wore fishnet stockings, a sparkling basque, frilled lingerie and opera gloves as she took the stage in front of an enthusiastic audience.

The role held deep personal meaning. “My mum went to university with Tim Curry and went to see his opening night at the Royal Court Theatre upstairs nine months pregnant with me – so this felt like an even more magical moment,” Beckinsale wrote. She explained that she was invited to participate the day after her mother’s funeral, calling the opportunity “a double gift.”

She thanked the cast for supporting her through grief. They were, in her words, “the most extraordinarily kind, welcoming, tender, emotionally intelligent bunch of absolute f***ing freaks,” and helped her live out a dream she had “since I was 11 years old.”

A Celebration of Life and a Community of Support

In September, Beckinsale shared moments from the celebration of life she held for Loe. “Dearest Mama, The fact that you have had to have a funeral at all is wrong and ludicrous,” she wrote. She followed her mother’s wishes and asked guests not to wear black.

“The only mandate you gave me over the years was that you wanted a celebration of your life and that no one was to wear black, so no one did.”

She also reflected on the support she received while filming “Wildcat,” a project she worked on while caring for her mother. “Not only the best cast and crew but also the last movie set my mum was able to visit me on and my God they treated her like the queen she was,” she wrote. “And supported me being her carer at night and working during the day, which was a lot.”

Beckinsale’s tributes continue to strike a chord with fans who have watched her navigate grief, love, and the painful beauty of remembering the person she calls her greatest compass.
