Katherine Ryan has shared the details of the birth of her fourth child, Holland, who was born earlier in the month.
The 42-year-old comic and her husband, Bobby Kootstra, announced the birth on Instagram, revealing they have named their newborn daughter Holland Juliette Kootstra.
Just days after their announcement, the couple appeared on the comic’s podcast Telling Everyone Everything to share some of the intimate details of the day.
During the conversation, Katherine revealed that her vagina was ‘bubbling’ at one point, which meant her baby was about to be born.
‘Sorry, like, TMI, my vag started, like, bubbling,’ she said.
‘Like, bubbles were coming out of it. And I was too stupid in the moment to know that was baby Holland crowning.’
In her podcast, she further explained that she was induced in the hospital.
‘The logistics of this birth were: if I hadn’t given birth by Friday, then we were to be induced, and we chose to be induced by a lovely, handsome doctor, celebrity obstetrician, Pat.
‘We won’t say his full name, but those in the know will know who he is. Everyone knows who he is, and he’s not someone that you want to s**t yourself in front of.’
She joked that unfortunately, she did in fact have a number two while in active labour, but of course, the doctors, nurses and midwives were unbothered.
‘I knew I s**t myself,’ she said. ‘But it wasn’t me! It was seriously like her [Holland] head.
‘I have a personal standard of excellence, so that was a low point for me.’
Katherine also explained that she went in with plans to take any ‘opiates’offered, but was unable to take a ‘shot’ she wanted as she dilated to 10cm quickly and gave birth within 45 minutes.
The couple didn’t know their baby was going to be a girl, with Bobby predicting that she was a boy, and both of them finding out on the day. Katherine emphasised that she didn’t care, but had predicted correctly that Holland would be a girl.
Katherine, 42, already shares son Fred, four, and daughter Fenna, two, with Bobby. Her first daughter Violet, 16, is from a previous relationship.
During the podcast Bobby called Katherine the ‘MVP of giving birth,’ adding that she can ‘do it the best’.
Bobby recently revealed he was left with a ‘tiny penis’ after a jet ski accident.
‘Right away, I got pulled up and like, one leg drags because of the skis and the bad driving, and then I just felt a pop,’ he told his wife of six years on a recent podcast episode as he recalled the incident.
‘There was like shrinkage, like in a cold pool, for a week and I was like, ”alright what is going on here? Why is it [my penis] so small?”’
Katherine and her husband Bobby have been together since 2018, but first dated when they were teenagers – breaking up on prom night in the noughties before reconnecting over a decade later.
