From soaring through the air on a massive mechanical butterfly to using a giant iPhone to reject calls from previous boyfriends, Katy Perry is certainly no stranger to performing crazy live stunts.
However, during a recent performance at the Isle of MTV Malta festival, it was the 41-year-old’s fans who decided to have the last laugh with the singer.
Performing her iconic hit I Kissed A Girl, the pop superstar can be seen crowdsurfing inside a giant inflatable water bottle.
The idea seemed simple enough that fans would roll the ‘Katyade’ bottle through the crowd and back to the stage.
But, in chaotic fashion, fans decided to send the singer in the completely wrong direction.
Footage shared online shows the inflatable drifting further away from the stage as Katy desperately tries to steer herself back.
She can be heard shouting: ‘Go back to the stage!’ from inside the giant bottle before laughing: ‘Oh my God.’
The concertgoers did eventually turn the inflatable around and roll Katy safely back onto the stage, allowing her to finish the song.
Speaking after the show, Katy admitted that the stunt had been more dramatic than usual.
‘I basically get in this giant inflatable water bottle, and I roll it into the crowd,’ she said in a video shared by the Isle of MTV Malta festival.
‘And tonight I went kind of far, and I was a little bit worried I was not gonna come back.’
Reacting to the mishap online, fans found the moment hilarious as @asenergeajenh wrote: ‘She always finds herself in some predicament.’
Another user called Timur also joked: ‘Do you ever feel… like a plastic bottle?’
This comes after Katy, who is dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, wrapped up the European leg of her Out of Office Tour in July 25.
Last month, Justin defended skipping Canada’s World Cup opener for his girlfriend, insisting that he had ‘boyfriend duties’.
Katy’s set came while Canada faced off against Bosnia and Hertzegovina after rallying performances from Alanis Morrisette and Michael Bublé in Toronto.
Showing where his loyalties lay, Justin offered his support from afar having spent the day supporting his girlfriend in LA.
