We haven’t talked about Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s relationship in a minute. Since we’ve been ignoring them, they’ve been doing more and more to get people’s attention. That’s the way it works! Justin and Katy’s first date was probably their dinner in Montreal last July. In the early months of their relationship, it felt like both sides were doing too much to promote their coupling. At some point, I just tapped out! Well, last night, Justin and Katy attended the Tribeca Film Festival. Her concert film, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live In Paris, premiered at the festival. This is their first red-carpet together.
They make an attractive couple, but I still find them rather odd together. He’s the former prime minister of Canada and the scion of a Canadian political dynasty. She’s a 40-something pop star with fading relevance. I guess you could argue that Trudeau also has faded relevance in Canada’s political world, but still. At the premiere, Katy was asked about her tour last year and meeting Trudeau along the way. She said, in part: “I would say now at the end of 91 shows, I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that…I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite — I fly super high. Sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.” Justin is the love of her life? Poor Orlando Bloom.
Fashion notes: Katy wore an archival Lanvin to this premiere. Like… they really pulled THIS out of their archives? For Katy? The funny little cones and her bralessness… it’s certainly a memorable look, I guess.
