Although Kerry Washington was no stranger to acting out daring romance scenes in her “Scandal” role as Olivia Pope that catapulted her to A-list fame, the star typically keeps her real-life relationship off camera. However, she has been known to share occasional glimpses of her husband, 44-year-old Nnamdi Asomugha, with her fans.
People says Washington married Asomugha, a filmmaker and former NFL cornerback, in a lowkey June 2013 wedding which a source called “really simple and sweet.”
On August 13, the “Six Triple Eight” actress took to her Instagram to post a cute clip showing a humorous moment between the pair as they promoted Asomugha’s new horror movie, “The Knife.”
“You guys, I am here with the writer, director, producer and actor of ‘The Knife,’” she declared, before panning the camera to her husband and breaking into a laugh. She joked in the caption that the “Crown Heights” star wouldn’t give her an interview, but said fans can catch the film in theaters on August 15.

The stunning starlet is known for keeping her family shielded from the spotlight, typically using her social media for work purposes only.
In a 2017 Global Grind interview for “Cars 3,” she explained part of her reasoning, saying, “I’ve always had a tenuous relationship with fame. I’ve always been kind of nervous about being in the public eye, and resistant to what that means.”
When asked about the importance she places on privacy, Washington said, “It means everything to me. It’s easier for me as an artist to become other characters when you know less about me. Cause I’m more of a clean slate.”
The dog mom, who adopted a pooch named Cinnamon after her former onset companion Josie died in 2021, per Dog Time, also explained she wants to respect her loved ones, saying, “What my husband does, and what my kids do, who they are – that should be theirs to share with the world. Not mine.”

She also revealed that she didn’t enter the entertainment industry to seek the superstardom she has now achieved. “For me, I came to this work because I love to be a storyteller. I love to tell stories, I love to move people’s hearts, I love to be able to shift somebody’s perspective and be able to make their heart open up a little bit,” she said.
Washington went on, “For me it’s never been about being on the cover of a magazine, and I really never thought that I would be. So I think part of my brain still doesn’t think it’s a big deal.” Instead of chasing attention, the anthropology major said she simply wants to “continue to have a career where I’m able to do work that I love.”
Despite not placing importance on the trappings of Hollywood, Washington became one of the most recognizable faces on television as she formed one half a forbidden romance with Disney voice actor Tony Goldwyn, who famously portrayed Tarzan in 1999.
The ABC icon received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame in December 2024, and told her supporters in her speech at the ceremony, “My prayer today is that my starlight continues to connect me to the light that shines in each of you.”
