Location, Location, Location star Kirstie Allsopp has shared an update on her leg recovery after a nasty slip resulted in her being air-ambulanced to hospital.
The 55-year-old TV presenter shared a fresh series of photos of her leg in a cast, including one of the extensive stitches up her calf, a little over a week on from undergoing surgery.
Allsopp previously said that she fell during her annual birthday trip to Meadowgate, Cornwall, describing it as ‘one of [her] favourite places on earth’.
In a new post to Instagram, Allsopp shared photos from her recovery bed, using a cold compression therapy system on her leg, reading, watching Frasier and spending time with her sons Oscar and Bay.
In the caption to the social media post, she wrote: ‘So… one week and one day after the surgery there is quite a lot of feeling in my toes and all the way up my leg, but I’m learning and healing and this exercise in patience and humility may turn out to be good for me.
‘I wanted to again say thank you so much to everyone who helped me get to today, and for all your kind and cheering messages.’
Allsopp said her dog is ‘thrilled’ at how much time she’s spending in bed, but that she will still be filming the Christmas instalment of her Channel 4 show in October.
‘I will be sitting down with my leg stuck out, but we’ll work around it,’ she wrote.
‘Occasionally the boys pop in to chat and bring friends, although next week they will both be at uni, and my leg looks like I’ve been bitten by a shark, but there are grapes & Frasier and I may publish a book called A Leg with a View next year.’
When first speaking about the holiday accident, Allsopp described how she had slipped on a muddy patch on a steep path, requiring a ‘whole host of people’ to get her to hospital.
Allsopp explained that her son Oscar ‘ran as fast as he could to get help’. The RNLI and Cornwall Air Ambulance soon arrived to transport her to hospital, where she said she was put on ‘a huge amount of painkillers’.
Having thanked the emergency workers who tended to her, Allsopp wrote: ‘God only knows what I was like to deal with high as a kite! Everyone at Barnstaple hospital has been amazing, kind and caring, so many lovely people doing their absolute best.
‘They have operated on the leg and I’ll be home soon. It’ll be a boot and crutches for a while but I feel very, very lucky that it was possible to reach me and get me to hospital so quickly, and I have a job that I can do on crutches.
‘Not a birthday I am going to forget in a hurry and again, THANK YOU to all those who have been involved in my care.’
