Kristen Bell is celebrating her husband Dax Shepard‘s impressive sobriety milestone with an adorable series of family photos. Bell took to Instagram on September 4 to honor her husband’s 21 years of sober living with a carousel of pics featuring sweet family moments.

Shepard is shown holding and hugging the couple’s two daughters, Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10. There is also a romantic photo of Bell and Shepard sharing a kiss.

“This is what 21 years of sobriety looks like. Lots of hugging. Hugging everyone and everything. Hugging life,” Bell captioned the post. “Thank you for getting sober, @daxshepard. I am eternally grateful to have you. We all are 💕”

Shepard’s reaction to Bell’s heartfelt post was both moving and hilarious. “Well this is a low blow. Even for you. Makin’ a guy cry when he can’t turn to booze?!?!” the actor wrote in the comments.

Shepard’s sobriety milestone is no small feat, and his famous friends showed their support in the comments of Bell’s post.

“The White Lotus” season 3 actor Walton Goggins wrote, “That’s the stuff… the good stuff, the best stuff.” Cheyenne Jackson chimed in to say, “Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes,” and Rachel Bilson commented simply, “❤️❤️❤️.” Terry Crews wrote, “AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING❤️,” and Nina Dobrev seemed to echo the sentiment, posting, “🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼.”

Shepard Has Been Open About His Sobriety Journey

Shepard, who tied the knot with Bell in 2013, has been candid when speaking about his past struggles with addiction.

During a 2021 episode of “The Pursuit of Healthiness” podcast, the “Parenthood” actor revealed, “What I would do is I would get sober for movies. I cared more about movies — it was the only thing I was more addicted to was being in movies — and so I would get sober for movies and then in between movies it was getting more and more dangerous.”

Shepard has been sober since 2004, and has used his celebrity platform to share his story. In 2020 he explained to fans on his “Armchair Expert” podcast that he had momentarily relapsed after breaking his hand in an ATV accident.

Bell later appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and shared that Shephard was “doing great.” “He was like, ‘I don’t want to risk this family and I did, so let’s put new things in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again,’” she explained.

Now Shephard is the co-founder of a non-alcoholic beer company called Ted Segers which he often promotes on his Instagram.
