A-list entertainers Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn left Los Angeles years ago to forge a life together in Colorado.
For over 40 years, the couple has been a shining example of true love in the entertainment industry. Though they both have a deep love of the film industry, a life in Hollywood simply wasn’t right for them.
Now, Kurt Russell is opening up about their decision to seek greener pastures away from city life.

Both Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have legendary acting careers that span decades. But at the end of the day, they weren’t charmed by the glitz and glamor of Hollywood life. Around 40 years ago, the power couple decided to move to a more a rural setting.
The best part is that the actors spend their daily lives however they wish.
âWhat I want to look at, what I want to be a part of â all the things that Colorado has to offer,â Kurt Russell shared in an interview with PEOPLE. âI wanted to eventually get into the ranching life.”
“When Goldie and I got together, a couple of years later, we both built a ranch there together, where our family has grown up. That was 40 years ago,” he continued.
Russell and actress Season Hubley married in 1979 before divorcing in 1983. Shortly after, he began his lifelong relationship with Goldie Hawn, though they remained unmarried.
While the couple wasn’t necessarily trying to escape Hollywood, they admitted life in the countryside called to them.
âI wasn’t escaping. I was just living where I live,â the 75-year-old added. âI was fortunate that it really didn’t make any difference. But when I did it, nobody else was doing that. I had many people tell me, âWell, that’s goodbye. That’s it.’ I said, âWell, we’ll see.’”
Now, many other celebrities have left the hustle and bustle of Hollywood for quieter areas of the country.
The Couple Wanted Something Better For Their Children
Though Kurt Russell doesn’t miss living in Los Angeles, he still has love for the city.
âI don’t dislike L.A.,â the “Overboard” star told PEOPLE. “It’s just not my preference in terms of how I like to live my life.”
Instead, Kurt Russell admits he and his neighbors simply have a fondness for the area.
âYou’ve got to understand something about the area of Old Snowmass,â he shared. âEverybody who lives there, they live there because they want to. I can’t say that about L.A.”
Together, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have a blended family. Kurt Russell and his first wife, Season Hubley, are the parents of Boston Russell, while Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson are the parents of Oliver and Kate Hudson. Kurt and Goldie welcomed their youngest, Wyatt Russell, together.
Even after all this time, the family feels grateful they raised the children in the country.
âIt’s very different from living in a city,” the actor continued. âThey grew up with a good dose of what nature can offer. There are difficulties to it, but there are also great rewards to it. I’m just more comfortable there.â
It was also his way of sharing his own childhood with his children.
âIt was like the way I grew up in Maine,â Russell fondly recalled his own upbringing. âI suppose, once you’re exposed to that kind of thing, it’s always home. Everything we did there in terms of what we built and what we have in terms of being able to offer in life for our children, I’m really, really happy that we were able to do that.â
