“Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization,” the family wrote. “He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”

Although details remained private, Busch’s health took a sudden turn. He tragically passed away hours later, shocking fans around the world.


NASCAR Makes a Joint Statement With the Busch Family

As a beloved racing champion, Kyle Busch had fans from many different walks of life. He will be tremendously missed.

Shortly after the news of Busch’s passing broke, NASCAR released an official statement along with his family.

“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch. A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation,” the official statement read. “He was fierce, passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans. Throughout a career that spanned more than two decades, Kyle set records in national series wins, won championships at NASCAR’s highest level and fostered his next generation of drivers as an owner in the Truck Series.”

“His sharp wit and competitive spirit sparked a deep emotional connection with race fans of every age, creating the proud and loyal ‘Rowdy Nation,’” the statement continued. “Our thoughts are with Samantha, Brexton and Lennix, Kyle and Samantha’s parents, Kurt and all of Kyle’s family, Richard and Judy Childress, everyone at Richard Childress Racing, his teammates, friends and fans. NASCAR lost a giant of the sport today, far too soon.

The Driver Was a Dedicated Family Man

While fans knew Kyle Busch for his racing prowess, his family knew him as a loving father, son, and husband.

PEOPLE reports that Busch was born in Las Vegas and developed a passion for racing, even as a child. His father was a mechanic and passed his love for cars down to his sons. Kyle Busch’s older brother, Kurt Busch, is also a talented NASCAR driver.

Kyle Busch married his wife Samantha on December 31, 2010. They welcomed their son, Brexton, in 2015 and their daughter, Lennix, in 2022.
