‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Canceled After Five Seasons, and It’s Not a Huge Surprise

Law & Order: Organized Crime has been canceled after five seasons.

The Law & Order: SVU spinoff premiered in 2021 on NBC. It moved to Peacock for its fifth season, which was released in April 2025. (Those episodes later aired on NBC in the fall of last year.)

The end of Organized Crime is sad news for fans of the Law & Order extended universe, particularly those who love star Chris Meloni’s Detective Eliot Stabler character. But the show’s cancellation doesn’t come as a huge shock.

Organized Crime struggled in the rating during its four-season run on NBC. One reason it didn’t connect with some viewers was its departure from the traditional case-of-the-week format of other other Law & Order shows.

The move to Peacock, along with a shortened season 5, was a warning sign that the series was in trouble. A rotating cast of showrunners also signaled that all was not well behind the scenes, noted <a href=”https://deadline.com/2026/04/law-and-order-organized-crime-canceled-peacock-nbc-1236863111/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Deadline. Meanwhile, Meloni is set to star in the upcoming NFL drama The Land for Hulu. It’s not clear if he may appear as Stabler in future episodes of SVU. (Meloni co-starred on that show for 12 seasons before leaving in 2011.)

But it hasn’t been all bad news for Law & Order fans. SVU has been renewed for a 28th season, NBC announced Thursday. The Mariska Hargitay drama is the second-longest-running American scripted primetime series of all time, after The Simpsons.
