Leeds Festival attendees have been left fuming after one of the headliners abruptly cut his set short.

This year’s event is being held at Braham Park this weekend, with notable acts including Hozier, Chappell Roan, The Kooks and Bring Me the Horizon.

On Friday night American rapper Travis Scott headlined, the appearance marking his return to the festival after last playing in 2018. His set was also an exclusive European festival appearance this summer.

Travis, 34, appeared on stage on time at 9.30pm and was set to play a 24-song set, however it was cut after just under an hour, with attendees given no explanation as to why he’d wrapped up 30 minutes early.

‘I love you so much. Goodbye,’ he told them before leaving.

In clips circulating on social media, people can be heard booing as a sign on the big screen popped up and read: ‘Respect our neighbours and leave quietly.’

Soon after many made their annoyance clear.

‘I think it’s a bit shocking that he’s just ended it like that,’ one attendee told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

‘I thought he was going out for an outfit change or something. I thought the show was good otherwise, but it was just a shame he ended so suddenly.’

Another added that it was a bit ‘disappointing’. ‘To keep people waiting so long to see you and then leave early. It’s a bit rude. I literally thought they were joking when they said it was over.’

Just a few hours after he left the stage, Travis posted about his performance, but didn’t address the fact it had ended so suddenly.

‘Who got the over head video of the intro of the set at Leeds. Champain and dumbo that was maddd wild,’ he posted on X.

However those who were there called him out.

‘YOU LEFT 30 MINS EARLY, PLS GIVD READING A FULL SET,’ user HipHopConcerts_ commented.

‘Yooo Travis why’d you leave early bro?’ Kai questioned.

‘Any explanation as to why you cut the set 40 minutes early?’ Ben asked.

‘Why’d you leave 30 mins early?’ Trix also posted.

Meanwhile user IAmMusic declared: ‘Give me my money back.’

However some others speculated he might have been forced to leave the stage after being hit by a pyrotechnic, which some fans captured happening on camera.

Travis is next scheduled to perform at Reading Festival today.

In 2021 the rapper found himself at the centre of a massive controversy after 10 concertgoers died at his AstroWorld Festival in Houston, Texas.

Hundreds of lawsuits were filed against him, as well as promoters Live Nation and others involved in the event.

However, it was later ruled that he would not be indicted, and that ‘no single individual was criminally responsible’ for the tragedy.

This weekend Leeds Festival also found itself in the spotlight after Hozier’s set wasn’t aired by the BBC.

During his performance, the Irish musician called for a free Palestine and praised artists who use their platforms ‘to tell the truth in their music’.

Addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza, he called for ‘a meaningful political solution for the kind of violence we’ve been seeing on our TV screens over the last two years — not lip service, but a meaningful peace process.’

He also said that true safety and security means ‘seeing a Palestine that’s free from occupation and ‘free to move towards meaningful self-determination and statehood.’

When contacted for comment, the BBC explained to Metro in a statement: ‘Viewers can enjoy a wide range of performances and highlights from Reading and Leeds Festival on BBC iPlayer, BBC Music’s YouTube channel, BBC One and Radio 1.

‘As mutually agreed ahead of Reading Festival, Hozier chose not to be included in the BBC’s coverage.’

Metro has contacted Leeds Festival and representatives for Travis Scott for comment.
