Beloved Indian bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman has died at the age of 42, leaving fans and the fitness world heartbroken. As per a report in The Independent, the champion athlete reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack on Thursday while receiving treatment for a shoulder injury at Fortis Escorts Hospital.

In a statement confirming the news, the hospital said Ghuman was evaluated on October 6 for shoulder pain and restricted movement. “Following clinical assessment, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair with biceps tenodesis was advised. The patient had no known comorbidities,” the medical team shared.

“At approximately 3:35 p.m., the patient developed a sudden cardiac arrhythmia. The anaesthesia, cardiology, cardiac anaesthesia, and critical care teams immediately initiated advanced resuscitation measures. Despite sustained and coordinated efforts, the patient could not be revived and was declared dead at 5:36 p.m.,” the statement added.

Born in Gurdaspur, India, Ghuman was celebrated as one of the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilders. He rose to fame after winning Mr. India in 2009, later finishing as runner-up at Mr. Asia, and representing India on the global bodybuilding stage.

His dedication to the sport caught the attention of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who personally hired him to promote his health and fitness brand across Asia. Ghuman’s combination of discipline and charisma made him one of the most recognizable faces in Indian fitness.
