A teenager has credited Metallica for saving her parent’s lives after a car crashed into their home.
The American heavy metal band, which was formed in 1981, has released 11 studio albums and has won 10 Grammy Awards over the years.
Metallica are also one of the most commercially successful bands of all time, having sold more than 125 million albums worldwide.
They are currently on their M72 World Tour, which began in April 2023 and is set to end on July 5, 2026, in London.
The band are currently performing in the US, however earlier this month some of their fans had an incredibly close call ahead of attending a concert in Blacksburg, Virginia.
In the early hours of May 7, the McKee family narrowly escaped a deadly accident after a truck crashed into their living room.
They’ve now said being fans of Metallica avoided tragedy, as they’d gone to bed early ahead of taking their daughter Madeline McKee, 14, to the band’s concert later that day.
Speaking to the WDBJ7 news station, David and Kristin McKee shared that they usually stay up late and watch TV into the early hours in the living room.
‘[I asked David,] “Do you wanna sit up?” And he was like, “Nah, I think I just wanna go on to bed”. I said, “I’ll go on to bed too”. Then, just a few hours later, we heard a loud explosion, glass shattered. It was just madness from that point on,’ she told the station.
‘We were so fortunate that, that night, my daughter could have walked down that hallway and found us in the rubble.
‘I thank God every day, and Metallica, for saving us.’

The couple’s teenage daughter – who had grown up listening to Metallica through her father and became a bigger fan after they were included in the last season of Stranger Things – also shared an email she sent to the band.
‘You saved my parents’ lives, I will be forever grateful. Good luck with the rest of your tour and hope to see you on the road,’ she wrote.
Although the family were lucky to escape unharmed, they did share their disappointment at also being unable to attend the show as planned.
This week Metallica also announced new UK and European dates for their tour.
They are now also set to play shows in Athens, Bucharest, Chorzów, Frankfurt, Zurich, Berlin, Bologna and Budapest.
In June 2026 they will return to the UK and Ireland for performances in Dublin, Glasgow and Cardiff, before playing two nights at the London Stadium on July 3 and 5.
Earlier this month the band also went so hard during a gig it was registered as a small earthquake.
When playing Enter Sandman at Virginia Tech in the US, the university’s Seismological Observatory recorded that tremors created by the crowd jumping up and down apparently caused ‘unusual seismic readings’.
However, it wasn’t big enough to trouble the Richter scale.
Metro has contacted representatives for Metallica for comment.
