Singer and producer Akon was briefly jailed in Georgia, USA after being arrested on an outstanding warrant, according to local authorities.

The 52-year-old artist — whose real name is Aliaune Thiam — was taken into custody by Chamblee Police on the morning of November 7 on a warrant reportedly issued out of Roswell, TMZ reports.

According to DeKalb County jail records, he was booked and held for several hours before being released later that day.

The outlet also shared Akon’s mugshot, in which he appears mostly expressionless, wearing a black hoodie.

The warrant was issued for his arrest two months ago after police discovered he was driving with a suspended license, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Independent.

The Roswell Police Department told the outlet that in September, police found Akon stranded in his Tesla Cybertruck on the side of the road due to a dead battery.

His car was towed, and as a result of the interaction, officers discovered he had a suspended license for failure to appear in court in January 2023.

Cops issued him a citation, took his license, and confiscated an illegal vape from the entertainer.

Akon was then arrested on a bench warrant on November 7.

Neither Akon nor his representatives have publicly commented at the time of writing.

The singer, a five-time Grammy nominee, became one of the defining voices of the 2000s with hits like Lonely, I Wanna Love You, and Smack That.

He has been a staple of the industry since his single, Locked Up, hit the charts in 2004, and has worked with names including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Gwen Stefani, and David Guetta on mammoth hits.

Aside from music, he has also been building his own futuristic city, aka Akon City, in Senegal, which runs on his very own cryptocurrency, named Akoin.

Metro has contacted Akon’s representatives for comment.
