Lego Harry Potter The Ministry of Magic set includes its own tube stop

There’s a new Collector’s Edition of The Ministry of Magic available for the Lego Harry Potter range and you don’t even have to be a fan to appreciate it.

Lego is pretty good at ensuring that its real-world models are reminiscent of designs from around the globe and not just the US. There are plenty of architectural sets based on famous landmarks, from the Sagrada Família in Spain to Himeji Castle in Japan, and there’s a really neat modular set based on a British pub.

But a lot of the best representations of ordinary British buildings comes from Harry Potter sets. For example, as far as Muggles are concerned The Ministry of Magic is just an ordinary tube stop but the reality is that here’s a whole secret organisation underground.

The benefit of Lego is that you can use this massive 51cm tall Harry Potter set as an all-in-one Ministry of Magic display or simply take off the top bit and have a realistic looking London street, complete with red telephone box and an authentic rubbish bin.

The special Collector’s Edition set is being released as part of the 25 year anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and is made up of a whopping 3,491 individual Lego pieces, with 14 separate minifigures.

At that size it’s aimed more at adults than kids, but it includes all the different details and locations you’d expect, including the courtroom, Arthur Weasley and Dolores Umbridge’s offices, the Leaky Cauldron pub, and the all-important Hall of Prophecy.

There are working features too, such as the ability to flush a minifigure from the toilet to the ministry below, collapsable shelves in the Hall of Prophecy, and a recreation of the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort.

The full list of minifigures includes Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Sirius Black, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Arabella Figg, Nymphadora Tonks, Arthur Weasley, Alastor ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody, Albus Dumbledore, Lord Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy, Antonin Dolohov, and Dolores Umbridge.

That marks the first ever figure of Arabella Figg in the Lego Harry Potter line, plus you also get Kingsley Shacklebolt’s magical Lynx Patronus guardian.

The completed set is 35cm wide and 15cm deep, so given the height it’ll need a fair amount of space to display – not to mention a long time to actually sit down and build it all.

As you’d imagine, none of this comes cheap and the set costs £389.99 in UK, available from Lego stores and the Lego website.

The set is due to be released on September 1, but if you’re a Lego Insider (which requires only a free sign-up) you can get it from August 29.
