Lego Pirates of the Caribbean sets sail again with Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship

The Black Pearl has been recreated in Lego form, with a massive new set aimed at adults fans, that also comes with a free gift for early adopters.

Prepare yourself for an unpalatable truth, but Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl turned 22 this summer. That means it’s been a long time since Captain Jack Sparrow has been one of cinema’s hottest heroes, but distance makes the heart grow fonder and Lego is now looking to appeal to nostalgic fans.

There were a number of Lego sets based on the films back in the early 2010s, including a version of the Black Pearl, but that was aimed primarily at young fans and was made up of only 779 pieces. This giant new version of the ship is for adults and is constructed from a staggering 2,862 Lego bricks.

It stands 64cm tall and 64cm long, and comes with eight minifigures, including Lego versions of Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom.

Although the set is called Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship – for those that don’t remember what its name was – it is indeed the Black Pearl, as the colour scheme gives away.

It comes with a highly detailed interior, including neat deals like the apple Captain Barbossa chomped on in the first film, cannons that can deploy automatically by rotating a Lego dial, and a removable upper deck and open boat.

There’s also a neat trick where the boat can be separated at the waterline, so it looks more like it would when out on the ocean waves. And, of course, this being Lego, you can go right ahead and make some brick-built waves for yourself, to make it appear even more realistic.

The full list of minifigures are Cap’n Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, Hector Barbossa, Gibbs (with parrot), Cotton, Anamaria, and Marty. All designed to look like the movie actors as much possible.

Given its size, this is naturally a very expensive set, at £299.99 in the UK, and will only be available from Lego stores and the Lego website. It’s clearly intended to be a Christmas or birthday present though, since it’s not even out until September 15.

However, if you’re a Lego Insider (which requires only a free sign-up) you can get it from September 12. Plus, if you buy it between then and September 18 you can get a free Captain Jack Sparrow’s Compass gift with purchase set, that won’t be available any other way.
