A new giant-sized version of Jango Fett’s starship and an exclusive Star Wars Day gift with purchase are amongst the new Lego sets out in May.
May has always been a special month for Star Wars; pre-Disney it was when all the movies were released and now May 4 is international Star Wars Day – because May the 4th Be With You is a really great pun.
At the same time, Lego always has special promotions and exclusive sets and they’ve just announced nine new regular ones as well, all to be released on May 1 – ready for the big day.
The new sets include two based around Kylo Ren and one for Andor but the main theme this year is Attack of the Clones and the prequel era.
Jango Fett’s Firespray-Class Starship – £259.99
The biggest new set is the Ultimate Collector Series version of Jango Fett’s Starship, from Attack of the Clones. The UCS sets are the oversized ones aimed at adult fans, with super accurate designs and extra features. This one stands over 19cm tall and is made up of 2,970 Lego pieces.
It comes with minifigures of Jango Fett and young Boba Fett, as well as a seismic charge launcher, moveable main entrance, and adjustable blasters. Its stabiliser wings also rotate round as it moves, from its horizontal landing position to flying vertically.
Chopper (C1-10P) Astromech Droid – £94.99
While the majority of Star Wars’ most popular characters are from the movies that’s not always the case and Chopper, from the Star Wars Rebels animated show, has long been a fan favourite. He also appeared in the Ahsoka Disney+ series, which is what this new 22cm tall model is based on, with a moving head, posable arms, and hidden tools – as well as a plaque and minifigure version.
Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle – £59.99
Believe it or not but The Force Awakens is 10 years old this December and Lego is getting ahead of the curve with some new sets based on the sequel trilogy. This is part of the Starship Collection of sets, which are based on medium and large scale ships that either don’t usually get a Lego set or are difficult to convey at minifigure scale. Kylo Ren’s ship was always one of the best of the sequel designs and this shows off the moving wings perfectly.
Kylo Ren Helmet and Jango Fett Helmet
New Lego sets often have a running theme and in this wave you’ve not only got the spaceships for Jango Fett and Kylo Ren but also their helmets. The helmet sub-line has been going for a number of years now, but this is the first time either character has had a go; although because Jango Fett’s is a little more complicated, with his moveable rangefinder, it costs £69.99, whereas Kylo Ren is only £59.99.
Rebel U-Wing Starfighter – £59.99
The next new live action Star Wars is the second and final season of Andor, which starts on April 22. Its more cerebral approach doesn’t mean there aren’t lots of cool vehicles and scenes for Lego to replicate though and this is the Rebel starfighter first seen in Rogue One and already featured in the new Andor trailers. As well as being a cool ship it’s also the only way to get new minifigures of Cassian Andor, K-2SO, and Dedra Meero.
Brick-Built Star Wars Logo – £59.99
Another set aimed primarily at adults, this 700 piece build recreates the iconic logo of the movie series, as a sort of companion piece to the recent Marvel logo. The Star Wars one arguably looks better though, with some neat greebling (the technical term for sci-fi design details on spaceship models and interiors) between the letters and a hidden secret in the ‘T’.
Revenge of the Sith Heroes & Villains – £44.99
Lego’s line of Funko Pop! style figures is still going strong and there’s been a few multipacks already, themed around various Star Wars films. This time it’s the turn of Episode III, with Anakin Skywalker, Padmé Amidala, General Grievous, Mace Windu, and Emperor Palpatine (there’s already a current set with Obi-Wan Kenobi in it). If you’d prefer something from the original trilogy though there’s also the new Luke Skywalker (Rebel Pilot), out on the same day, for £9.99.
Many of the sets are available to pre-order already and if you buy Jango Fett’s Starship between May 1st and 5th you’ll get a free keychain. Also, if you happen to be in Japan for Star Wars Celebration, you can buy Revenge of the Sith Heroes & Villains and the Brick-Built Star Wars Logo early from the Lego Star Wars booth there.
There’s also going to be a bunch of in-store events around the world for Lego Star Wars, starting from May 1, and a livestream on April 15 with a promise of new reveals. But what fans are really interested in is the special gift with purchases for Star Wars Day.
As well as the keychain you get with Jango Fett’s Starship there’s also a Millennium Falcon mini-build if you spend over £35 on Lego Star Wars, although that’s already been released elsewhere.
The one everyone really wants is the Kamino Training Facility, which features the ultra obscure KE-8 Enforcer floating patrol vehicle, which has never been made in Lego before and which most people probably never even noticed in Attack Of The Clones.
It was there though, and the set also includes three Clonetrooper cadets and a training tower, which is certainly going to have prequel fans excited as it’ll never be available any other way.
At the same time, Star Wars themed items will be added to the Lego Insiders catalogue. You can sign up to be a Lego Insider for free and then use in-store points you earn to get things like a Lego Star Wars Joe Hogan poster, a pencil case, and a Jango Fett’s Starship lenticular coin.
