In a wide-ranging interview with Time after being named the outletâs 2025 Entertainer of the Year, 51-year-old DiCaprio provided some insight into exactly why he prefers to avoid the limelight whenever possible. It turns out that he made a conscious decision to remain more private in an effort not to annoy the public and ensure he had longevity as an actor.
The actor was discussing how his breakthrough role in âTitanicâ brought him success and financial freedom but also brought unwanted attention onto him as a person. Understanding that he was a public figure, he also worried that people would get sick of seeing his face if he was constantly appearing on television screens and magazine pages.
Striking the correct balance between his personal and work life is something that DiCaprio says he has worked on. He explains, âItâs been a balance Iâve been managing my whole adult life and still Iâm not an expert.
âI think my simple philosophy is only get out there and do something when you have something to say, or you have something to show for it. Otherwise, just disappear as much as you possibly can.â
Revealing his thought process when it came to making sure he could keep acting long-term without the audience becoming oversaturated, DiCaprio said, âI was like, âOK, how do I have a long career?â Because I love what I do, and I feel like the best way to have a long career is to get out of peopleâs face.â
Leonardo DiCaprio Makes Rare Appearance With Parents
Underlining how private the actor is, he recently made a very rare appearance alongside his father and stepmother. DiCaprio, who almost used the stage name Lenny Williams, was celebrating the release of his latest film when he was pictured with his parents.
The group were spotted at a party following the release of âOne Battle After Another,â with the actor being joined by his dad, George DiCaprio, and stepmom, Peggy Ann Farrar as they posed for photographs.
The party was hosted by Hollywood executive Mike Medavoy at the behest of Warner Bros. co-chairman and CEO Mike De Luca. Other celebrities who were at the event included both Al Pacino and Baz Luhrmann.
