Daveigh Chase, a former child star known for her roles in The Ring and Lilo and Stitch, has died.

The late actress died at the age of 35 on Tuesday, with her death confirmed to TMZ by her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez.

Hernandez told the publication that she was admitted to a hospital in Los Angeles earlier this month due to malnutrition.

This week, it is understood she died after being diagnosed with meningitis and several infections in the blood, which led to sepsis and ‘her body shutting down’.

The movie star had stepped away from the spotlight in recent years but was part of several high-profile projects during her youth.

She voiced Lilo in the 2002 Disney animation Lilo & Stitch and follow-up TV series, as well as her acclaimed role as supernatural villain Samara in the 2002 horror The Ring.

For the latter role, she secured the MTV award for best movie villain for her haunting performance.

Her other credits Samantha in the hit film Donnie Darko (2001), a role she reprised in 2009 for the sequel, and the voice of Chihiro Ogino in the American dub of Spirited Away.

From 2006 to 2011, she also appeared as child bride Rhonda Volmer in the HBO drama Big Love about a fundamentalist Mormon family living in Utah.

In a tribute on a newly-launched GoFundMe, Hernandez called the late Chase ‘a light in my life’ and said that she had faced ‘more than her share of hardships’ over the years, especially during her upbringing.

Fans who grew up watching her work have also shared their condolences and remembered her iconic performances.

‘She was part of so many childhood memories. Gone far too soon,’ injury3times wrote on Reddit.

‘I knew her more as Rhonda on the TV show Big Love. Hell of a character and hell of an actress. Tragic,’ Mrs Swanson added.

‘RIP, Daveigh. We repeat lines from your films almost daily, especially your Chihiro,’ LiluLay shared.

‘Lilo & Stitch was mine and my daughters’ favourite movie when they were growing up. So very sad,’ glum-literature-8837 posted.

‘She had such a great voice. Great person. This is devastating. May she rest in peace and I pray for her wonderful family,’ Public_spend9621 echoed.

Born in 1990 in Las Vegas, Chase made her onscreen debut in Sabrina the Teenage Witch in 1998.

Over her career, she appeared in 50 credited roles, including in ER, Charmer and American Romance. Her final one is from 2016, in which she voiced Kiwako Seto in the video game Let It Die.
