Lindsay Lohan Reveals Why She Returned to the Big Screen With ‘Freakier Friday’

After taking a long break from acting, Lindsay Lohan is back on the big screen alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in “Freakier Friday.”

In an August 2 interview with The Sunday Times, Lohan revealed that it was her on-screen mom who convinced her to star in the hit film again.

“Throughout the years, because my life was so public, she was a safe space for me,” she said of Curtis.

“Actually, Jamie mentioned the idea when I was pregnant, and I was like, ‘Well, not right this second,’” Lohan shared.

The “Mean Girls” star added, “It’s timing. Time is working on my side! Which is great.”

Lohan admitted that she likes to keep it safe when it comes to her roles. “I’m never looking to do something that presses too many boundaries. I tried that when I was younger, I didn’t love it.”

“I don’t want to do something that will cut my whole fan base off, the people who have been with me for so long, who will love Freakier Friday. I want to respect the people who have kept me here,” she said.

Lohan & Curtis Have a Very Close Relationship

Lohan and Curtis don’t just play a mother-daughter duo on-screen — they’re also very tight behind the scenes.

“Jamie was with me at a time in my life when I was going through a lot publicly,” Lohan told People. “She was privately really there for me.”

As for Curtis, she told the publication, “I know I can trust her. And I can’t say that about a lot of people. If I tell her something, it’s gonna stay with her.”

She added, “We’ve both been through hard things, ’cause we’re alive and life is hard. And we’re not dead yet. So the truth of our experience together, it belies all of the kind of showbizzy stuff.”

Lohan shared, “I have to feel safe around people. And Jamie is one of those people for me.”

Although it’s been 22 years since their first film together, “Freaky Friday,” Curtis and Lohan have stayed close.

“I take my job seriously, and when I’m the mother or elder to a young actor, I take great responsibility to make sure they can always count on my friendship and love,” Curtis told BBC.

The “Trading Places” star shared, “We’ve been united all the way from her teens to her twenties and just recently she brought her baby to meet me in LA.”

Curtis revealed that the reason “Freakier Friday” took so long to film was that Lohan needed to be old enough to play a mom of a 15-year-old.

“It is a happy, nostalgic, funny, sweet, heartfelt Disney movie right at the end of the summer. There haven’t been a lot of movies for women, and this is a love letter to every mother, grandma, sister, cousin, and daughter,” she told Variety.
